"What would have taken months and cost millions, ARC did in weeks with virtually no traditional media advertising"

Wider national rollout to commence in the coming weeks

SANTA MONICA, Calif., July 17, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- ARC Entertainment, the distributor of "The Undefeated," the film about Gov. Sarah Palin's rise from obscurity to national prominence, announced today that through Saturday night the film had a stronger opening than expected with the large markets trending towards weekend per screen averages above $10,000 driven by multiple sold-out runs. The film had accumulated approximately $5,000 per screen through Saturday night. Unique in the theatrical feature world, "The Undefeated" was rushed to select digital theatres in only 3 weeks, and was marketed almost entirely through social media and grass roots efforts, with virtually no traditional media spend. With the strong initial showing, the film is going to a wider release footprint later this month, with details being announced soon.

"We are extremely pleased with the audience reaction, which has been over-the-top enthusiastic and very passionate, including standing ovations at most screenings," said Trevor Drinkwater, CEO of ARC Entertainment, the film's distributor. "We expect word-of-mouth to keep ticket sales strong and we will definitely expand the film to a wider national audience. With merely three weeks of preparation and a virtually non-existent traditional advertising spend, the film did exceptionally well. " .

"We have been told the theaters in Phoenix, Atlanta,

Over the weekend reports also documented the strong ticket sales and enthusiastic audience reaction. Reuters reported, "It may not be 'Harry Potter,' but another film featuring a bespectacled protagonist is racking up strong pre-sales before its national roll-out this weekend." It was so long ago, about a year ago that some PDS FReeper troll said that “Sarah Palin is an enemy of America”

I saw a thread last year where a couple were predicting a JR, "bug zapper" run where he would be purging freepublic of Palin supporters.

Look for bussed-in assorted street-level dem operatives to try to physically prevent people from seeing the movie soon, since the smear campaign has apparently failed.

I predicted the same thing last night. Look for moonbat protests to spring up at theaters after the nationwide roll-out of the film.

10 theaters....That renders the per-screen pretty useless.

Apparently not.

Truth is a harsh mistress.

Too bad that you haven't noticed her boot heel on your head. Now you know where that persistent pain in the side of your thick skull is coming from.

There is a little something there but I haven’t read anything that says that the per screen average would somehow translate to a wider release. If I missed it, I apologize.

You didn't read the first paragraph of the thread topic before you started your anti-Palin posting?

Your lengthy, if erroneous, post says a lot. About you.

10 theaters. That isn’t a limited release. It is part of a different strategy to get “buzz.”

But even if you disagree with my conclusions and see it differently — I REPEAT MY CHALLENGE! Where did I insult “everyone” much less anyone (much less you. much less Gov. Palin) on that thread?

WHERE??? Answer or admit you posted knowing the truth did not match your post.

>>Indeed it can be. Too bad you wouldn’t know the truth if it crawled up your wizwag and pitched a tent there.<<

Where have I not been truthful?? WHERE???? If you cannot backup THAT post, your post knowingly does not match the truth.

POST A LINK!!!! I DARE YOU!!!! (you won’t because you can’t).

I see also you ran to daddy! “Daddy, the bad man is using mathematics, facts and the truth to be mean to me! Make him STOP!” (you may take that as sarcasm — if it offends, well...)

Please translate that into English. I can tell it is an insult and am unsuprised but it doesn’t seem to parse into anything...

The guy never even went to the link to read the article, he just launches into his spammy tirades and shouting on every Palin thread.

Yes.

Now, upon what do you make this statement? Please point to posts and how these make me one.

Or does coming to a different conclusion on a set of facts automatically make anyone a troll? That seems to be the criteria: agree or be stoned to death.

JR has said “FR is not a debating society” and I won’t debate my conclusions. But they are perfectly valid.

You’re wrong.

The per-screen average, even in ten theaters, is of paramount importance. It’s the only measure for determining whether a picture will go wide or not.

You extrapolate your potential wider audience based on this number. Sometimes you hit pay dirt, e.g. “The King’s Speech.” Sometimes you flame out. “Atlas Shrugged” did well in a few theaters, went into wider release, and subsequently bombed.

Whether “The Undefeated” will succeed when it goes wide, nobody knows — but so far, it has succeeded wildly — based on the per-screen average. To assert that the number is “meaningless” is simply inaccurate.

10 theaters. That isn’t a limited release.

Sure it is. It's limited to 10 theaters. Either provide a link that defines 'limited release' as a release with more than 10 theaters or apologize for wasting everyone's time.

But even if you disagree with my conclusions and see it differently — I REPEAT MY CHALLENGE! Where did I insult “everyone” much less anyone (much less you. much less Gov. Palin) on that thread?

Your comment about 'cult of personality' is an insult to supporters of Governor Palin. If you knew any better, you'd be ashamed of yourself.

Where have I not been truthful?? WHERE???? If you cannot backup THAT post, your post knowingly does not match the truth.

You're lying about using arithmetic. You're lying about being 'attacked'. You're lying about the reason anyone might have to 'attack' you and you're woefully misinformed about limited release movies. That's just for starters.

I'm not running to anyone. I'm simply making Jim aware of your antics so that when you go too far (and you will), he'll be well aware of your past history of trolling.

This just gets stupid sometimes. The 10 theater thing (as most people realize) is what used to be called a test market. A strategy routinely used with any number if products to determine if interest is significant enough to warrant greater distribution. Since in this case the interest was strong and the distribution is growing, it is reasonable to deduce that the numbers were significant.

It is probably too much to ask some posters here to get their head out of their a$$, but if they would just have their navel replaced with plexiglas they may be able to see this.

“10 theaters is meaningless — statistically and otherwise.”

Zero ad buy. Accomplished in 3 weeks. Mock if you wish, but this is an accomplishment.

"That better?"

Yes.

Now, upon what do you make this statement? Please point to posts and how these make me one.

Well, that's a pretty small assignment. Here's the link to your sordid posting history:

http://www.freerepublic.com/tag/by:freedumb2003/index?tab=comments;brevity=full;options=no-change

Your trolling of Palin threads on this forum is well known, and your posting history of incessant PDSing rants, shows it in ugly detail.

Didn't think you'd want to open that can of worms, but apparently, you're willing to call your own bluff. Must be some sort of unconscious need to confess, on your part. Good for you. Perhaps confession is the cure for PDS. We'll see.

I guess you were the scum troll they didn't ping to their attack on you.

The article said "The film opened in 10 markets on Friday", not 10 theaters.

OK, I went to the chart used by conservatives4palin, and it does appear it was 10 theatres, one in each market:

On the other hand, that chart says the per-screen average was only $2850, so this article must include the saturday numbers.

I agree with you that you can't really draw conclusions based on such a small number of theaters. Palin has a solid base of supporters who will see the movie, until it gets above 3 million or so you haven't really exhausted her base.

Here's a freerepublic blast from the past about money-per-screen, it's from 2004, and you can imagine that the per-screen take on movies has gone up since then: Kinsey movie rakes in cash: the movie many critics are calling a puff piece on the man some consider a fraud and a pervert grossed an average of $15,805 per screen on 36 screens nationwide

The typical comments on this "outstanding" number, which at the time was the highest per-screen gross: Most of these art/ego films do high per-screen biz when they open.

For comparison, Atlas Shrugged opened in 300 theatres, and averaged $5590 per screen.

Now, it did great given the lack of regular marketing, but that could just mean that they knew marketing wouldn't help. Or it could mean that they didn't understand how popular it was going to be.

But that was right after she endorsed McCain in the senate primary, and some conservatives were really upset about that.

>>Your comment about ‘cult of personality’ is an insult to supporters of Governor Palin. If you knew any better, you’d be ashamed of yourself.<<

Then your skin is thinner than I could possibly have imagined. I’ll keep that in mind in the future. How do you get up in the morning? “Good Morning” must send you into fits!

>>You’re lying about using arithmetic.<<

Which part? (Don’t bother, my arithemetic was correct)

>>You’re lying about being ‘attacked’. You’re lying about the reason anyone might have to ‘attack’<<

You have attacked me. You even attacked me ON ANTOTHER THREAD (and I was kind not to note the breach of rules and etiquette)

>>and you’re woefully misinformed about limited release movies. <<

No, you are. Your ignorance doesn’t make a truth. It may get you off the hook for overtly lying (just barely), but it doesn’t make me wrong nor you right. (well, it makes me right but that is another discussion).

>>That’s just for starters.<<

So far all you have is you were hurt because I described the film as a “Cult of Personality” film. I didn’t call YOU a name, didn’t call Gov. Palin a name, didn’t call ANYONE a name. There have been no insults nor untruths.

You: A lie is anything I disagree with.
Me: A lie is an untruth knowingly stated.

In other words you are bending the truth — beyond reality — because you were caught.

Other than that all you have is you disagree with me and are ignorant on some things.

I can send you a Band-Aid (TM) for your boo-boo if that helps. Because clearly you are easily offended and hurt by facts, analyses and conclusions that you disagree with.

I leave you to your chamber of mirrors and echos.
