As the Beltway politicians try to figure out how they will raise the debt ceiling and for how long, most voters oppose including tax hikes in the deal.
Just 34% think a tax hike should be included in any legislation to raise the debt ceiling...55% disagree and say it should not.
Fifty-eight percent (58%) of Democrats want a tax hike...82% of Republicans do not. Among [Independents], 35% favor a tax hike and 51% are opposed.

The survey question the Dems used was probably something like "To save the economy, would you accept a tax hike on the richest 2%?" or some such.
How about “Ploopy In Chief?”
(Thanks to the Wimpy Kid...)
Poofter-In-Chief is probably more accurate ;-)
The people who believe that they are entitled to live for free off government programs (IOW typical Liberal base) and that those that have wealth owe people that don’t, should have their citizenship revoked because that is being UnAmerican.
If we had a media that was impartial, when Obama said people like me should pay more in taxes, the follow up would have been Mr. President we reviewed your Income Tax records and it seems that you took every possible deduction that you could, why didn’t you simply allow the government to take more, if that is truly how you feel?
The Ploopy-Poofter-In-Chief?
No. It’s a conspiracy. Obama would never lie to me. 88% of Americans DO want a tax hike. They just don’t know it yet.
Democrat politicians are different than Democrat voters - the pols all vote the same way or else no $$$$$ from Pelosi for their next re-election run. Voters on the other hand are free to say what they believe.
Poverty is concentrated in single black mothers who are raising a generation of vicious bastards literally. Crime is concentrated in this generation of children growing up with little positive guidance or contact with males worthy of emulating. That is the hard truth and most of these kids would be much better off placed in orphanages.
It is also important to have everyone pay something for running the government. Those who have to pay nothing have no incentive to make sure it is operated efficiently and only on those things which are necessary for the public good. Those who pay nothing are the reason taxes have been raised so often and so high. That is not to say that there are not some within this group who vote against bankrupting the nation but they are a small minority.
SS deductions are not truly taxes since they are contributions to provision for one’s future linked to an individual person. They are actually forced investments or savings very similar to buying an annuity. And everyone pays the same rate. But upper income payers are capped at what they receive in benefits so this is in no way regressive.
The tax break in SS Obama gave will only come back to bite those dependent on SS on the butt since there was no adjustment downward in benefits in the future. Typical Obama political ploy.
B.O. is a Marxist Liar.
99% of American Patriots want Obama Fired.
Keep in mind the 48% who pay no income tax figure that the “rich” (aka anyone who has more than an obama supporter) should have their burden increased. I am surprised that 55% are opposed based on the 48% figure.
I'd be willing to bet the polling question(s) didn't even include the phrase "tax hike". It was probably more like, "would you support revenue increases in addition to spending cuts to reduce the deficit?"
Of course, Reagan proved that revenue increases come from CUTTING tax rates, but in the Dim vacuum, they think that if you increase tax rates, taxable activity remains the same, so revenue increases. But, reality says otherwise.
SS deductions are not truly taxes since they are contributions to provision for ones future linked to an individual person.
Actually, they’re not. If someone pays into the SS system for their whole life and die before collecting any benefits and have no surviving dependants, their estate collects nothing from SS. SS is just another income tax.
It doesn’t matter that WE know the truth, and it doesn’t even matter that Fox reports it. What matters is the other idiots in this country who still believe the Liar and still watch the piss-bucket-carrying other networks.
Everybody who has a job has to pay payroll taxes, which is a flat tax on your income (i.e., an “income tax”) with no exemptions for low pay. The rate is the same (15.3%) for a guy who makes $3,000 a year as for the guy who makes $70,000 a year. The only ones who get a break are the ones who make more than $106,800 a year, because above that amount, no more payroll taxes are due. So it’s a flat tax that excludes most of the income of the very wealthy. Hmmm....
Not to mention that if your income is from dividends, interest, rents, royalties, or the like (think rich people again), your income is exempt from payroll taxes entirely.
No wonder Warren Buffett says he pays a lower effective tax rate than any of his office staff.
I’m not for penalizing the very rich, but I think they should pay taxes at the same rate as someone who works hard at his small business and makes $106,800 a year.
That’s another one out of the park, Frank. Kudos.
I’m sick and tired of listening to BO telling us that we need to make sacrifices for the good of the country when it’s him and all the politicians that need to make sacrifices for screwing up our country and putting us in the mess we’re in.
Just watched CBS run a BULLSH*T poll saying Republicans and Tea Party want the Republicans to raise taxes and compromise. What a CROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
