Right now, President Obama and Congress are considering a deal to pay the nation's bills that could cut the Social Security and Medicare benefits seniors have earned through a lifetime of hard work.

AARP has had a cozy relationship with the federal government (most likely the Social Security Administration) for decades. As soon as one hits the magic age of 50, he or she is bombarded by AAPS literature in the mail. So how does AARP know your address? Undoubtedly, Big Brother violates your privacy and gives them mailing lists for the entire country. At a time when Obama is complaining that not enough revenue is coming in to the federal government, why not charge AARP a user's fee for the mailing lists? Doesn't AARP have to sacrifice to reduce the national debt?

I agree. There are hundreds of billions of dollars that should be cut from the federal government budget before SS and Medicare need to be tackled. There are entire cabinet departments and countless programs that need to go away first.

CUT IT ALL! This is what the debt ceiling crisis is all about.

The trouble with the concept of cutting Social Security and Medicare is that all the seniors will then be entitled to welfare, subsidized housing, food stamps, and medicaid?
How will that stop the hemorrhaging of money? How will that stop deficit spending?

The government has money to pay both SS checks and Medicare. This is just more scare-mongering for the old folks.

The real question is: when are we going to END Sosh-Security and Medicare?
Pay up what is owed (that is all) and put a cork in it. Done. Over. No more Marks of the Beast for everyone.

When I had my Peripheral Neuropathy diagnosed we started getting calls from the Diabetes associations...I’m non-diabetic. It goes to prove they sell your names to these orgs. I’m surprised I haven’t gotten any from the Arthritis ones.

I was suggesting a special, probably unauthorized, cozy relationship between the
federal government and AARP. My guess is that the Social Security Administration gives mailing lists of all persons over 50 registered with Social Security and eligible for benefits. This is a an effective way for the AARP to get members and funding. In return, the AARP advocates and lobbies for ever-expanding Social Security and Medicare benefits, and opposes any efforts at retooling these programs to address the national deficit and debt.
I wasn't thinking in terms of medically-oriented charities getting mailing lists from each other, or from the government, which probably goes on as well.

Knew what you were saying, just wanted folks to know that the gov’t is selling their medical info to charity orgs.
Hubby had to tell the idiot from the same diabetes org 5 times there WASN’T a diabetic in the house. PN is not just a disease for diabetics as you know. Seems if the fatty tissue in your feet atrophy’s you can develop PN. Fibromyalgia wasn’t bad enough, this one had to crop up too.
I will be glad when they get this second nerve block done on Tue...L 3-5 with 5 being the worst are bulging. And being off all my arthritis vits and minerals for 2 weeks has brought the muscle pain up to intolerable level and left my temper a little short of patience.

But from a political stand point SS and Medicare should be last, not 1st on the chopping block... Conservatives are losing the PR battle because they think it's morally questionable to think in terms of strategy.
They will change when they tire of being good losers, and understand this is a democratic republic, not a monarchy.

It's amusing yet sad to watch conservatives in a frenzy to defend government-run wealth redistribution and government-run health care... It's sadly tragic to see Forest Gump's Mama's words come to life...Stupid is as stupid does.
We're in a war of attrition, and the definition of futility is attacking an ememy's strength.
Misrepresenting a poster who suggests strategy rather than stupidity is contemptible, and reflects much more poorly on the accuser than the accused.

When Barry the bastard boy says he’ll take this to the American people, what he is saying is he will task his kneepad sycophancy —euphemistically called the mainstream media— to lie through their whoring teeth whatever the liar in chief tells them to post. barry bassturd has a little army of liars at his elbow, as we see with the current crop of lies on this debt-limit. I’m so tired of lying meida and fools who swallow whatever swill they pour out ...
