Gun ‘preppers’ go mainstream as more people realize no one is immune to disaster
Gun Rights Examiner ^ | 11 July, 2011 | David Codrea

The Economic Collapse blog reports that Robert Kiyosaki is warning of an impending economic collapse—and advises on preparations that include buying guns.

By way of credentials, Kiyosaki is the author of the successful “Rich Dad Poor Dad” books, reportedly having sold over 26 million copies, and runs the Rich Dad financial education website. He co-authored “Why We Want You to be Rich” with Donald Trump.

The Economic Collapse lists 11 “sound bites” from a Kiyosaki video (see sidebar media player) that include predictions of collapse where supermarket food supplies are reduced to less than three days—presumably with no restocking in sight. Of special relevance to readers of this column:

#5"buy a gun"

#8"so come to my house and I'm armed and dangerous and I'll welcome you"

#9"we have food, we have water, we have guns, gold and silver, and cash"

The significance here is not that a probability exists for terrible societal consequences from destructive financial policies—it’s that it is now being normalized by prominent voices, and more Americans are losing confidence in the system. Which means the message will reach beyond sites like The Economic Collapse, or one of my favorite regular stops, Western Rifle Shooters Association, where they routinely call our attention to other voices like The Market Ticker, which provides detailed analysis and explanations to back up the dire commentary.

The Los Angeles riots and Hurricane Katrina, where territory was ceded by civil authority for days, were mere localized disconnects where the majority of Americans could watch things unfold on TV and make conversation about how bad things looked for "those" poor people. When these Americans no longer have TV because they have no electricity—and all that that implies—we will indeed be living in interesting times.

I’m old school. 1939 Tula Nagant pistol.

(nice lot of ammo!)

Absolutely true.

But still, be prepared, be armed.

Pray for the best, be prepared for the worst.

It fills in the microscopic holes that are in metal and makes it super slick. If you apply it to heated metal, you can wipe it dry so it won’t stain your clothes or attract dust.

Cool. I am a sucker for new goop to use on metal.

You are not alone Dude. We are bracing for the storm that is surely coming. Weaponed up and just tweaking the food supply.

I’m a FAL enthusiast. Got an undisclosed number of the really nice StG58 kits a while back and built ‘em up on DSA receivers. That’s what I take to the Appleseeds. I like AR carbines for my 72 hour kits. My wife shoots a heavy barrel standard AR. Got a NM Garand that shoots way better than I do and with plenty of black tip 3006 to feed it. Some nice and effective pistols that I shoot pretty well. That’s about all I have to say about the armory...

Turn ammo into skill. We’re all going to need it sooner than later, I think.

On heated metal use 1/4 of what you think you need. It spreads like fleas on puppies.

Kiyosaki is a moron and financial illiterate whose only skill/talent is self-promotion. Efforts to find any wealth he might have in excess of what he’s earned selling books have been fruitless.

Nobody’s perfect, and he is a consummate marketer, but you’re trying just a little too hard.

Nope, just limbered up my typing fingers and that’s what flew out. I’ve never met the guy, what could I possibly have against him personally?

I can’t convince Hubby that 1000 rounds is not enough.

Alright! Just the guy I want to talk to.

Want to go with a rifle that can reach out and touch bad guys. For me, 7.62 (or thereabouts) is the way I want to go. Would like a less expensive (not cheap) weapon with scope, mass produced round, and accurate.

Recommendations?

That is my opinion as well. He is really good at self promotion.
