Bachmann won't take Fox host's apology (Faux News)
Politico ^ | 6/27/2011 | By MAGGIE HABERMAN

Via POLITICO's Jennifer Epstein, Michele Bachmann isn't accepting an apology from Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace for asking her yesterday, "Are you a flake?" Continue Reading

ABC News' Jon Karl, who's been getting face-time with Bachmann in Waterloo in advance of her formal campaign announcement, played a clip of the web video in which Wallace said, "I messed up. I'm sorry."

When Karl asked if she accepts the apology, Bachmann brushed aside the question this way: "I think that it's insulting to insinuate that a candidate for president is less than serious."

RE :”You nailed it, and I think Wallace realized it after he'd said it. It's the reason he interrupted her with the clarification. It was obvious from the start of the question, when he had to rephrase, that he wasn't doing a good job putting what he wanted to ask into words.

Vetting Republican candidates is important but Wallace doesnt ask other guests insults like that.

How do you answer a personal insult like that anyway? A processional would have cited examples of her comments and asked her to defend them.

But try telling her supporters that Bachmann is doing a really bad job out of the gate. They adhere to the same approach that Bachmann is following - pretend there is no problem. It's not hard to guess how well that approach will play out over time.

She's going to run out of money before the first primary. At this point I don't see anyone actually donating their hard earned money to Bachmann only to see her piss it away with rookie mistakes.

She got in too early. She got a lot of people excited. Now she's headed for the basement with Gingrich.

"FNC has been doing a number on Sarah Palin for quite awhile"

Yes they have and Sarah has been doing an excellent job of ignoring them and speaking directly to the people. Sarah is the real deal, with a real deal record to prove it.

Now to refuse to accept an apology is just wrong. It makes her appear petty and vindictive.

I totally agree.

Then please explain all the air time Fox gives to speculation about Rick Perry. He is not announced either but receives considerable attention on Fox. With Palin, it's ‘move on, not worth our time, next question’.

FLAKE:

A person who is flighty, unreliable or impractical.

Has Chris Wallace asked that same question to other politicians?

Wallace knew he’d be quietly applauded by the MSM for asking that.

That question displayed a mocking attitude toward conservative women, who are not taken seriously.

Whatever anyone thinks of Bachman, she is a member of the U.S. Congress and has a legitimate background.

Unless an apology comes to me, I don’t accept it. Going on tv and including her in his Mea Culpa wasn’t an apology.

Arguing the semantics of an apology is one thing - and besides the point I was making.

Bachmann had a real political opportunity here to be the better person. He came across as petty and it showed enough for him to recant. Now, in her response, she comes across as petty, as well.

So, they're tied. Except. HE'S not running for President. . .

Perceptions matter.

I could vote for Bachmann or Palin. I have respect for both. This “unserious” talk is just politics. But Wallace isn’t on either campaign staff and his comment sounded more like a personal attack. Wallace, a lot of Freepers are saying you are an ‘idiot’. Are you and ‘idiot’ Wallace?

You splitting hairs.

Wallace acknowledges people are upset and then apologized.

If he meant viewers then he would say: I apologize to our viewers.

Maybe you require blood?

Ok. I take back my shot-gun blast at Fox News. They have their good and bad and I wasn’t giving them credit for The Good that they do.

But getting back to this issue, I just re-watched the interview segment where the “flake” question was asked and I just watched the apology for the first time.

First of all, maybe he THOUGHT he was paraphrasing others, but it sure didn’t come off that way. “Are you a flake?” was pretty clearly a question from Wallace to Bachmann.

A very rude and stupid question.

However, I do think his apology was fair. I wish I would have watched the apology before I posted on this thread. (What a flakey thing for me to do!)

RE :” When I saw that on utube I was jumping up and down shouting “YES!” Christie's handling of that hack was perfect! I've liked Christie from day one, but now I like him even more. He is almost up there with Sarah in my book.

Christie has my respect. He goes on those MSM shows, faces them down and he comes out on top. He has confidence.

He is our hero in NJ, a few here want to shoot him for not taking every-single issue position the same as them (or even me) in a liberal state. My reply :”You like NY Democrat Governor Coumo better, forcing through same sex marriage with RINos support? Then continue to shoot governors like Christie ” .

I think the question about his kids going to private school is valid BTW. I have always questioned Dems like Obama and Clinton doing that while killing school vouchers.

[Wallace apologized publicly for ASKING if Bachmann is a flake.]

So if a person ASKS someone else...” No offense, but are you a pervert”? it would be proper?, after all, it’s just a question.

The natural reaction to such a ASKED question would be anger and repulsion as to why would he ask a question like that.

Just asking.

All Conservatives. Reagan was a stupid actor with Alzheimer's, George W. Bush was a stupid, privileged, fool. George H.W. Bush (while not conservative) was a wimp (WWII hero) and elitist.

If a candidate can't take these attacks on and win, they don't need to be there. It's just the way it is.

When did Wallace ever apologize to Bachmann? When did she refuse such an apology (that was never proferred)?

Wallace has asked questions like this in the past. It’s part of his style. He frames the question with background, then asks a very blunt question that puts the interviewee on the spot. He did a poor job of framing the question this time.

The response to such a question needs to be as blunt as the question is. Gingrich (not “my” candidate, btw) did a good job when asked about his “food-stamp president” remark. It’s an opportunity to go on the attack and show some fire.

Sadly, Bachmann’s answer wasn’t as strong as it should have been IMO. She normally does a good job of being forceful. If I had to guess, I’d say she expected that Wallace was a “friendly interviewer” and was caught off-guard. Having said that, I should mention I haven’t seen the program yet, but the end of the previous question had both Bachmann and Wallace chuckling.

Sheila Jackson Lee is an actual FLAKE.

She compared "Christian militants" to Islamic radicals in a hearing of the House Homeland Security Committee last week.

When she's criticized, democrats defend her. BTW, has Chris Wallace asked if she's a flake?

>>Bachmann had a real political opportunity here to be the better person.<<

Oh bull. How often does Chris Christie go for the “better person”? Did you ever think that Americans are tired of squishy people? I know I am.

She brushed aside his half-apology. SHE displayed a control over the situation. Why accept anything that was not specifically directed to her? The opposite of love is not hate, it’s indifference. She framed it.

I don’t even support her. She is a great lady but I’m not convinced that she is right for President, but for heaven’s sake, let’s stop being nice and start being strong.
