Folks, I just went to have my oil changed(5 qts pennzoil) and get an inspection at the Kwik Lube. I also had them put on two wiper blades.
The sum was $77
The place was empty other than one fellow getting a company truck done. At anyrate we got to discussing the near doubling of prices and it appears that the patronage of the service station is so low that they are about to go out of business. The other place in town is in the same position.
How's that Hope and "Change" working out for everyone? In this town it looks like it could mean the loss of about 14 jobs
I used to get a free news paper, bottomless fountain drink and oil change at Oil Can Henry's just 10 years ago for $20
You also got an inspection and two wiper blades installed this time, which would add to the “pure oil change” price.
can you verify that the filter was changed...and that you really got pennzoil?.....
I had the oil changed last month to the tune of a month’s paycheck. But they threw in a tune up, fixed some do-hicky on the A/C (it’s a 107 in these parts) and did the free tire rotation and fixed a leaky valve stem. Time to go Amish with a horse and cart.
$21.99 this AM ( no wiper blades). I think there was courtesy coffee there.
Could be $39.95 for the wiper blades. I did my own a few months ago and paid $15 for a pair at Auto Zone.
I’m glad I live where I can change my own oil without neighbors turning me into the Gestapo. But it still isn’t cheap.
They advertise low oil change prices and hope to stick it to you on things like wiper blades etc. Ask them their price for a hepa filter.
It’s supposed to be 103 here today, and I didnt feel like running to Auto Zone paying $4 a qt for oil buying a darned filter, dealing with their pathetic ***’s
Sweating my tail off AND THEN going to the Kwik Lube for an inspection.
But I did not expect $77
I see where these chuckleheads dinged me now.
$21 for 2 wiper blades. A 5 min job
Grrr...
Almost the exact same thing happened to me. Was in an auto servicing center, paying a lot for minor services, hardly anyone else around, talk about high prices and the place going out of business. Everything seemed dark and hopeless.
It was 1979.
A year later, Reagan got elected. 32 years later, the world is still here.
Now I do it myself in the barn.........I'm not sure where the old oil goes LOL.
The oil for my diesel Jetta has gone up a buck since the last oil change but it's every 10k miles.
I just picked up the remains of someones home oil change in the side ditch down the road from me.
Don't so much mind the buckets or jugs, since our business creates dozens of gallons of used oil a month, but I coulda done without the dead bunny rabbit floating in the oil.
Depending upon the make of auto some dealerships do oil changes at a reasonable price.
I changed my own oil for years, sometimes bought it a case at a time OTW picked up 5 qts. at Kmart etc. Filters were 2 bucks or so. I’m not a mechanic but I saved a lot $ doing my own oil changes. Oil was 50 cents./can or less so go figure. Replaced the battery, things like that, saved a bundle.
I did get a free car wash! LoL
I had better get that done before the water rationing starts!
Going Amish SOUNDS good, but I hate shoveling HS.
Bought a jug of radiator fill...it's special stuff for this car.
Bought a new gas cap to make the damn light go off.
There is not all that much I feel capable of doing on modern cars, so refuse to give up on doing oil changes myself.
I can do an oil change with Mobil 1 for the price of a standard at “Jiffy Lube” I figure. Also, I don’t have to worry about driving off with a loose oil pan plug or wondering if they gave me recycled oil...
For some families by the time you get done paying the babysitters, oil changes, car washes, maid service, landscapers, etc you got to wonder what you are working for other than keeping the money flowing in the economy.
Did the Jiffy Lube thing a few months ago...jut wanted an oil change. They walked me thru what they would do and it included a lot more than an oil change...top off fluids, wash windows, vacuum carpet, “courtesy check” of other things (looking to do the repairs). All to the tune of about $45!
I said “Whoa, I just wanted my oil changed and I thought it was around $22-$24.” Guy said “Sir, we’ve found that people want those extra things, so we just include it.” I said “cancel the sale, pull my car out of the bay.” Guy backed up at that point and said, I’ll give you the same price as if you had a coupon, and that’ll be $25. But next time, you’ll have to pay the full amount.” I said “OK”...and ain’t been back.
