Gannett. Link only per FR posting rules. Link here.
The fedgov has no freaking business doing student loans. Or 90% of the other junk it does.
Apparently, they have business to run. :-|
SWAT team kicks in the man's front door? You have to be kidding me! This is insanity. This is approaching the Police State that the "dictator want-to-be" aka Barry the Bastard wants.
Perhaps the video has been changed. When I posted my comment the police said very clearly that they did not break down his door and did not hold him, or his children, in a squad car for 6 hours.
You are correct. The local police did not do those things.
The SWAT team from the DOE did it.
The local police just watched and let it happen.
Exact quote...
“Well, Stockton Police say federal agents requested one patrol car for the search, they reiterated that they did not kick in Wright’s door, or handcuff him, and said he and his children were never held....”
I’m pretty sure that ended with “against their will”, but it appears News 10 has pulled their video and moved the story. You can still search the story out on their site though.
Video at youtube...

And it looks like their trying to pull it back....
We live in a criminal, mobster, police state. After about 250 years free from debtors prison, apparently the US Department of Education thinks its ok to arbitrarily re-establish these. No judge, no jury, no authority...just because we say so. No debtor’s prisons for 250+ years, now we have them—that’s change.
No wonder they want us disarmed—to keep us safe. How long do we endure this coup d’tat?
You really do not have any idea what you are talking about. I went to Texas A&M 20 years ago. It cost me about $2K a year...for 15 hours over 2 semesters...room (granted...in the cheapest dorm with no AC...but I was poor and on the GI Bill) and a 7 day meal plan. Today, if I want to send my kid to Texas A&M...a public school...the same setup will be closer to $18K a year. So what cost me about $10K will cost my kid $80K...and he's only 11. Imagine what it will be like in 10 years when he is old enough to actually GO to college. What about my 3 YO little girl...or 9 YO? And my 11 YO wants to be a VET (horse vet).
So...talk again about how it is OK for A SWAT TEAM...ARMED SWAT TEAM to enter a house over back student loans? Especially when the perp doesn't even LIVE THERE? You know...STUFF happens in life some times. HARD TIMES. And its either pay a bill and starve...or EAT. Making that choice should not come with the thoughts of having your door kicked down by a SWAT TEAM. There are other remedies.
You are NUTS. THAT is NOT America. WRONG forum buddy.
As to the SWAT team, yes, that probably was a bit too much. We don't know, however, what went on before such a drastic measure was taken. Had the these people threatened anyone who contacted them about the bad debt? I'm suspicious that was the case.
These people had a house and 3 kids — maybe cars, boats, etc. They'd most likely been out of school for quite awhile. I suspect that they hadn't been making payments for some time. There are ways to apply for relief when a debtor falls on a patch of bad luck, but ignoring the problem or threatening a collector will almost always bring some first-class trouble.
Please don't let projected college costs worry you too much. Lots of things must be factored in. For instance, many of the finest universities are making classes available
online. By the time your children are ready, teaching methods may have gone through some big changes. The marketplace is working: too many high-paid college professors and administrators may very well force schools to find different, cheaper ways to operate. Factor in, too, inflation (or will it be depression or stagflation?), scholarships, work/study programs, summer jobs for the older kids, and you have some wonderful years to look forward to. Your kids will make it; you did.
Yes...I made it...and I made it through graduate school through to my doctorate...and it is expensive. As I said...VET school scares the pants off of me....especially specializing in equine veterinary medicine. BUT...there is such a shortage projected in the next 15 years (a 50% retirement rate and most vets going into small animal care) that he should be able to write his own ticket.
Of course...we are preppers...and I am just sure our politicians are going to drive us into the ground...so I probably really won't have to worry about any of this...lol.
It might actually get them thinking.
That changes the situation somewhat. I'd still like to see more old fashioned police/detective work employed rather than this commando/stormtrooper BS.
Also, here is a LINK to the story, as the one at the top doesn't work any longer.
Drudge has this up too. Than God for Drudge.
Before much time has passed, they will be pushing people into cattle cars. The silver lining to that black cloud will be listening to the badge and jackboot lickers scream, beg, and plead.
