GOP Freshman Jeff Landry (R-LA) announced today that he would skip the meeting with Barack Obama at the White House.
I dont intend to spend my morning being lectured to by a president whose failed policies have put our children and grandchildren in a huge burden of debt.

Finally! Someone speaking truth to power vacuum!

Not unusual for different people having different ways to express themselves on any given situation. Sometimes a polite exclamation and sometimes the old story about a mule and a 2x4 can serve. With Obama and his enablers I think the veritable 2x4 is appropriate.
I like this guy already.
Who is he?
I think that it is significant that he listed the membership in the NRA first.

This ranks as a rare act of honesty and courage right up there with Joe Wilson shouting out “You lie” to Pres. JugEars in the House chamber.
Bravo and kudos.
Sorry, my post 45 should have been a response to you.
This really makes you laugh.
Who would want to listen to that jackwagon ever ?
Next time I’d like to see him is in 2013 shaking hands with the next President.
I think he is someone to watch. Sounds good so far.
At some point you have to stop "playing" nice and call Bravo Sierra when you see it. We have gone well beyond the point of being nice and should be full out attacking these liberal scum.
But the real question is, did the lack of "civility" cause Boehner to cry?
I think his words were perfect!

Fine, stop playing nice. But at the same time, don't play stupid -- which is what Landry did in this case. His better bet would have been to see what transpired, and then comment based on facts, rather than assumptions.
r9e->No, wrong action.
As things stand now, he clearly does not "welcome a conversation," as he peremptorily turned down the opportunity to have it.
Why have a conversation with someone who you KNOW is just going to lecture you no matter when or where that conversation is held? obama is beyond redemption and should just be ignored by the republican party. (Shunned even)
As it is now, he's simply marginalized himself to no good end. Dumb.
He's a republican. He's already been marginalized by obama. obama doesn't care what republicans or Americans think, and to try to believe otherwise is self-delusional.
The time for talking to obama was over in Feb 2009. We saw then that he didn't care and wasn't going to listen.
The congressman did EXACTLY what was right and proper to do. Expose obama for the failure that he is.
If that's the case, why lie in the first place by saying that you welcome a conversation?
obama is beyond redemption and should just be ignored by the republican party. (Shunned even)
Well and good, except that the Republicans are effectively powerless unless Obama signs whatever bill they, and the Democrat Senate pass. The Constitution is inconvenient that way.
He's a republican. He's already been marginalized by obama.
I meant, marginalized himself among Republicans. It comes across as the sort of stunt that Tom Tancredo used to pull, to the effect that when it really came time for him to take on his signature issue of immigration, nobody from either party wanted to deal with him.
This guy has been in office for less than 6 months. He has an awfully exalted opinion of his own worth if he thinks refusing something like this has any effect other than to make him look silly.
Rep. Landry may have to start “packing heat” if he isn’t already doing so.
I think they were the right actions and the right words, especially after seeing this headline earlier today...

He uses facebook almost as well as Sarah Palin. From his posts I gather that he hates debt, over regulation on drilling, and is none too fond of obama. But he does seem to love the military, Israel, and freedom....my kind of guy.
Congressman Landry’s full statement:
I have respectfully declined the Presidents invitation to the White House today. I dont intend to spend my morning being lectured to by a President whose failed policies have put our children and grandchildren in a huge burden of debt. Over the past two years, President Obama and congressional Democrats have overseen the largest budget deficits in U.S. history. On top of that, the Presidents budget adds $1.3 trillion to our national debt every year for the next ten years a budget that failed to muster a single vote in the Senate. Until the President produces a responsible deficit reduction plan, Im not going to the White House to negotiate with myself. Our conference has put out for months where we would start the process. The President has done nothing, just like he has for the people of the Gulf Coast. For months, the Louisiana delegation has sent the President numerous requests to meet with him or his chief of staff concerning the de facto moratorium issued in the Gulf of Mexico, a de facto moratorium that has driven gas prices up and now threatens to derail economic recovery; the President hasnt even had the courtesy to write us a note back. I refuse to partake in his political grandstanding that will ultimately do nothing for debt reduction and job creation.
I would bet that the congressman never made such a statement.
Well and good, except that the Republicans are effectively powerless unless Obama signs whatever bill they, and the Democrat Senate pass. The Constitution is inconvenient that way.
All funding bills start in the house. They fund ONLY what they want to fund. Article 1 section 8 and nothing else.
"He's a republican. He's already been marginalized by obama."
I meant, marginalized himself among Republicans.
Marginalized among rinos maybe. Us Republicans love him.
