John McCain has the second-lowest approval rating among U.S. senators, according to a new poll.

About one-third of Arizona's registered voters approve of McCain's job performance - 34 percent compared with 53 percent who disapprove of the job he's doing - according to a new poll by Public Policy Polling.

That's a drop from 40 percent approval in January.

Only Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) scored lower among sitting senators, 29 percent to 58 percent.

They coulda had Hayworth. He may be a bit crass, but not craven.

People in Arizona seem to have Election Day Derangement Syndrome (EDDS) - they go crazy just before they walk into the booth and walk out in a daze...Jeez, what have I just done?!

Must be a desert illness...

Doesn't matter. He's in for the next six years, and probably the next six after that. Thanks Arizona.

Let this be a lesson to those who view fence-straddling & illegal alien pandering as virtues.

Who cares? He just started his fifth term in January and won’t be up for reelection again till 2016. Unfortunately if he runs again in 2016, he’ll probably win again then too and be 86 at the end of that term.

And yet he keeps getting elected over and over ... Every 6 years McCain comes out swinging as a die hard “build that damn wall” conservative, and people buy into it ... and for the other 5.5 years after election he is a reach across the aisle, hands across the table RINO, furthering the Democrat agenda.

We get the government we deserve.

The fools that voted for this RINO deserve him. Unfortunately, we have to suffer under the results of his votes.

It's my quite serious opinion that the slow-learners in the American public are beginning to realize that McCain is a couple of jacks and aces short of a full deck....and his mental reasoning is really beginning to deteriorate lately.

This is rather a sad situation that should not be wished on anyone....but he bears it out with some nutty pronouncement in front of a camera almost every week without fail....almost obsessively, in my view.

My amateur psychoanalysis goes for his little Toto-pet, Meghan McCain, also.

I would have preferred that Arizona elected Hayworth, but he too is awful. He is not that smart, has some weird semi-liberal populists moments himself, and just is not charismatic at all.

My point being, any decent challenger would have beaten McCain I think.

Too late, AZ.

You’re stuck with him for another 5.5 years now.

And look for his daughter to run for his seat next time, if she meets the age requirement.

For some inexplicable reason, Minnesota, one of the best educated states in the country, has a soft spot for giving high elective office to the mentally challenged. Look at the current governor and both U.S. Senators if you doubt it.

McCain isn’t senile; he knows exactly how to play people like a fiddle. It didn’t work in 2008 on a national scale, but it worked in a state/local election. But that’s democracy for you. Given a choice, voters kept reelecting Robert Byrd even when he was clearly incapable of doing his job.

Hey, they voted for him...

Yeah, but unfortunately though he inflicts harm to the rest of the country.

On behalf of AZ, please accept our apologies!

He wields waaaaayyyy too much power in this state. Enough where it wouldn't surprise me in the least if the elections were rigged in his favor. I've seen crazy things here.

I was in the minority who voted for J.D. If folks weren't happy with J.D., it would have been easier to remove him after one term, than it would be with McStain after 5 terms. I held my nose and voted for the libertarian in the general. NO WAY in h-e-double-toothpicks would I, or many of the R's I knew in the county would vote for him under any circumstance. He is not favored in Maricopa (largest and most conservative) county at all.

He is our "Teddy Kennedy". We can't get rid of him. Every time we try to flush, he rises back to the top!

Q. Would someone explain how McCain got the GOP nomination? [answers may vary]
A. Lieberman’s friends own the GOP.

"McCain ran WAY to the right in this last election."

He's been voting Way to the right lately, his ACU record says it all. Note the Lifetime avg of 82:

(2010, 2009, YOS, lifetime)

100.00 96.00 28 82.61
