I would have preferred that Arizona elected Hayworth, but he too is awful. He is not that smart, has some weird semi-liberal populists moments himself, and just is not charismatic at all.
My point being, any decent challenger would have beaten McCain I think.
Most real Arizonan’s voted for J.D. Hayworth. Unfortunately, we have a bunch of easterners and californian liberals and independents in Phoenix and Tucson that elected McQueeg.

Hayworth ran a campaign on a shoestring and still managed to get two of five Republican votes. McCain can always count on his slimey Phoenix cabal to give financial support, and the braindead military retirees to vote his way. No politician who holds office longer than one term believes that the American electorate is either educated or intelligent.
