Just watched CBS 60 Minutes' interview with Lara Logan and what happened in February in Cairo. I must say, I'm still confused: just what did happen? After watching Scott Pelley's interview with Logan, I still don't know if she was raped. It's more than an academic question; in every state in the U.S., there's big difference between sexual molestation and rape. I honestly don't know what happened to Logan that night, other than that a mob tore her clothes off and beat her. To be explicit, CBS didn't ask (or chose not to broadcast) whether a penis entered Logan's vagina - and that's the definition of rape used by every state in the U.S. and most countries around the world.
Another thing that was deeply dissatisfying about the 60 minutes interview: there was no context for why this attack occurred. I find this rather bizarre, to say the least.
Any fellow FReepers have similar thoughts? Different?
Is she a goat? Then no.....no Islamist’s penis was involved.
Why does it matter? She was sexually assaulted by a mob in Egypt. That’s about all I need to know.
Sounds just like a tsa screening to me
Exactly.
I don’t watch 60 Minutes and had heard the story elsewhere.
No seriously........what really really really happened
They leave it up to your imagination on purpose. What really happened is she was pinched hard hundreds of times all over, a Muslim custom I guess. She was not raped. But leaving out certain details adds drama and ratings.
She’s trying to make this group grope “rape” into a career enhancer for this attention junkie. That’s what I see. A flake and a nut.
I almost am embarrassed as to my curiousity but it does raise questions, don’t it?
I didn’t see the 60 Minutes interview, but as I read it somewhere, Logan said that over 200 men “raped her with their hands”.
And yeah, it’s kinda important.
Like you ask, WHY did this happen? I don’t much like Muslim men but seriously, they are really not known as big rapist types and hardly on a scale of 200 men at a time.
She said she was lost in this crowd for almost 45 minutes. She also said her clothes were tore off her body.
anyway, that’s what I heard and none of it makes sense. Why did they do this to her? There have been plenty of female journalists in the Middle East and this is something we’ve not heard about. If anything, they make our women wear veils and all kind of stuff.
And it seems that they did NOT rape her, in your classical definition, so what did they do to her, and why?
Why isn’t our State department raising hell if something horrific did happen?
Like you, I have a lot of questions. I understand the roar of the mob mentality but they had her at their wont for 45 minutes yet she wasn’t raped?
Just a very strange story. I’d think maybe she’s hiding something, does not want to admit to having been attacked so horrifically. But then why admit to that strange “being raped by their hands” thing?
I don’t think it was a penis that entered her, but these vultures put their hands up there, from what she said. Also, no context is needed - the mob over there was just a bunch of brutish thugs, and probably just went after her because she was a woman (although either she or someone mentioned that they thought she was an Israeli Jew, but in fact, she is neither).
The abuse she says she endured sounds horrific, and it lasted for a total of 25 minutes! She looks like she’s physically recovering fairly well, but I’m sure the horror of the attack will stay with her forever.
Jeff, this is precisely the point: what does “sexual assault” mean? Is the laying of hands on a woman’s private parts exactly the same as a penis penetrating her vagina? I apologize for being so explicit, but I guess that’s necessary to illustrate the spectrum of “sexual assault” under discussion. And the reason I’m focusing on this is because the vast majority of legal systems around the world make the same distinction.
What I’m suggesting is that CBS should have recognized that distinction and done something to shed light on the matter. I certainly respect the privacy of “sexual assault” victims, no matter what they had to endure, but in this case CBS and Lara Logan CHOSE to go public. Therefore, I believe they have a duty to make clear the nature of the crime that was committed against Ms. Logan.
She stated in an interview posted here last week that they “raped her with their hands.” Based on what we’ve learned since 911, I would assume that in the psychosexual nightmare of Islam that group assaults are common outlets for these pervs and actual intercourse is probably reserved for private sessions wives for procreation and for pleasure with young boys.
In another interview she said the mob violated her for 40 minutes, using their fingers. They beat, pinched, ripped her clothes and sexually assaulted her with their fingers. She said they got off on inflicting pain and enjoyed hurting her.
She said she was raped by their hands. Now that you mention it, that is not rape.
I think it has always ben clear they felt her up. Give it a rest, please.
Actually, penetration is considered rape. People can be raped with an object (a broomstick, for example), or manually. And the term applies to both men and women when they are subjected to penetration.
It really doesn’t matter to me which it was. Either one demonstrates that they seem to have a lot of animals on the street in Egypt. Either one reinforces my general opinion of the “religion” of Islam.
I dont watch 60 Minutes (of obama ass-kissing) and the only thing I know of is she was molested by Mooslum animals for more than 10 minutes, groped, touched etc based on her previous statements and the report by the cameraman.
