(CNN) The White House released President Obama’s original birth certificate Wednesday.

The surprise release follows recent and sustained remarks by businessman Donald Trump, among others, that raised doubts as to whether the president was born in the United States.

Piles coming in or out make absolutely no difference, because whatever date they were numbered is the date that is put as the “date filed”.

And Obama’s was given a number on Aug 8th that was higher than the number the Nordyke girl was given on Aug 11th.

That just doesn’t jive. Piles don’t explain this mess.

That, then, would make this a most intriguing issues. In any event, I have a day job and can't dwell on this forever. The purported Obama BC issue has now been crowd-sourced, and thousands of eager sleuths are digging into it (I expect Trump is also investing in some professional examination, and wouldn't be surprised if the Hildabeast isn't discreetly funding some examination as well). I suspect that over the next few days we'll be learning more, particularly as more discrepancies are noted. I remain, at this point, an agnostic on the validity of the certificate.

The act of becoming a Indonesian citizen does not mean the automatic loss of American citizenship. A child cannot lose citizenship through any action of their parents. If he became an Indonesian citizen he would have simply been a dual citizen.

I”m sorry TigersEye isn’t very bright. In saying “It is surprising that there has been no judicial decision upon this question.”, the judge is NOT saying that he isn’t GIVING a judicial decision now (in 1844). He is remarking that it is remarkable no one had contested the meaning for the previous 50 years.

One sentence later, the judge goes on to say:

“This circumstance itself, in regard to a point which must have occurred so often in the administration of justice, furnishes a strong inference that there has never been any doubt but that the common law rule [birth making one a NBC] was the law of the land.”

Not only was the judge not casting doubt on the principle, but he was showing that the principle was completely understood and accepted across the land.

Are you saying that Texas birth certificates have no raised seal on them?

Depends on the authority that issues them. Some county clerks order paper with a slightly raised border, or other feature, already on it.

How do they protect against forgeries? How does a person know whether a Texas vital record is just a Photoshop What makes you think that seals weren't routinely forged, or stolen, or a deputy clerk given $10 a page for a stack of the special paper birth certificates, already sealed?

The jurisprudence of the entire country is moving away from things like seals, much less raised seals, which were meant to imitate wax seals, and has been for decades. Does that make it easier to forge documents? I'm sure it does. But legislatures, and courts, has decided, at least since the 1970s, that the increased risk of fraud is more than offset by the convenience of modern technology.

Raised seals on official documents were very important back when the rules of evidence generally precluded the admission of a copy of a document. That rule arose when a copy was made via hand writing. There was simply too much room for discrepancies, intentional or not. A government document, under seal, and all seals were raised back then, was generally admissible, even if it was a copy. Once photocopiers became ubiquitous, the rules rapidly changed, and copies became generally as admissible as the original. But raised seals don't photocopy, unless you shade the raised portion by hand, and then the seal is still often illegible. So people moved to inked stamp seals, which photocopy just fine. And when laser printers became common, printing the seal with the printer became common too.

You can certainly debate whether all of that was good policy. But it has been going on decades, and to conclude that it is all part of some vast conspiracy to aid BO is just ridiculous.

On Friday, Obama sent a letter to state Health Director Loretta Fuddy, asking for two certified copies of his original Certificate of Live Birth. On Monday, Fuddy made an exception to state policies regarding the release of birth certificates and witnessed the copying of the original certificate and attested to the authenticity of the two copies, which were certified by state registrar Alvin Onaka, Abercrombie’s office said.

Original forms from the time of birth are used to produce computer-generated documents recognized as official birth certificates in the state of Hawaii.

Obama’s personal attorney, Judith Corley, showed up at the Health Department on Monday and paid $10 for the first certified copy of the state’s original certificate and $4 for the second copy.

When Barack Hussein Obama places his hand on the Bible today to take the oath of office as 44th president of the United States, Barbara Nelson of Kenmore will undoubtedly think back to the day he was born. It was Aug. 4, 1961, at Kapi’olani Medical Center for Women & Children in Honolulu.

“I may be the only person left who specifically remembers his birth. His parents are gone, his grandmother is gone, the obstetrician who delivered him is gone,” said Nelson, referring to Dr. Rodney T. West, who died in February at the age of 98. Here’s the story: Nelson was having dinner at the Outrigger Canoe Club on Waikiki Beach with Dr. West, the father of her college friend, Jo-Anne. Making conversation, Nelson turned to Dr. West and said: “‘So, tell me something interesting that happened this week,’” she recalls.

His response: “Well, today, Stanley had a baby. Now that’s something to write home about.”

The new mother was Stanley (later referred to by her middle name of Ann) Dunham, and the baby was Barack Hussein Obama.

“I penned the name on a napkin, and I did write home about it,” said Nelson, knowing that her father, Stanley A. Czurles, director of the Art Education Department at Buffalo State College, would be interested in the “Stanley” connection.

She also remembers Dr. West mentioning that the baby’s father was the first black student at the University of Hawaii and how taken he was by the baby’s name.

“I remember Dr. West saying ‘Barack Hussein Obama, now that’s a musical name,’” said Nelson, who grew up in Kenmore and went to Hawaii in 1959 to be in Jo-Anne’s wedding party. When Nelson was offered a job as a newspaper reporter and photographer at her friend’s wedding reception, it led to her living in Hawaii for 47 years. She returned to Kenmore in 2006.
