Top U.S. officials in Afghanistan on Sunday condemned the burning of a Quran in the United States that sparked three days of protests in which more than 20 people died.
Burning the Muslim holy book "was hateful, it was intolerant and it was extremely disrespectful and again, we condemn it in the strongest manner possible," said Gen. David Petraeus, who heads the U.S.-led international forces in Afghanistan.
U.S. Ambassador Karl Eikenberry said in a statement that Americans respect the Quran "and all religious texts and deplore any action that shows disrespect to any religious faith."
"At the same time, I want to emphasize, as have many Afghan leaders, that to attack and kill innocent people in response to the deplorable act of one individual is outrageous, and an affront to human decency and dignity," Eikenbery's statement said.

Yeah, like by cutting its balls off.
Barry wants the trainer to cut his own balls off so the beast won't hate him.
They agree with Lindsey.
That's exactly what he's doing. He's a Fred Phelps wannabe with the right to be a creepy attention seeker, but is fully responsible for behavior that endangers our troops.
What amazes me is how many freepers jump on the General for trying to protect his troops and defend this utter moron and his irresponsible behavior.
When you say nothing else but condemn the jackass preacher, when you make that one point in a post, you can't really blame anyone on grounds of reading comprehension. You have made a faulty argument, presented an irrelevancy. (I'm referring specifically to your posts 126 and 130, not the others.)
The preacher's jackassism is totally beside the point. Most here, including 668, understand that he is a jackass. But 1A is not only to protect the wise.
Nor is it for Gen. Petraeus to make public comments as to who is wise or foolish. His job is to get the war won, not to undermine it, and his comments undermine it far more than the Florida preacher's actions.
Held responsible in what way?
The muzzies riot and kill over a cartoon, should those who draw cartoons be held responsible? What should the punishment be for drawing a cartoon that causes a muslim to loose control?
So how do you know that posting something here on FR that is considered anti-Islamic won't incite riots? Believe me, if those people read many of the posts here, it's a lot more inflammatory than just burning a Koran.
Then he's even dumber than your average rock.
I think you're wrong. He knew full well that what he did would result in death and the endangering of our troops and his need for attention for his infantile emotional outburst was more important to him than the lives of the troops who are protecting his freedom.
The idea that anyone on this board is defending him is utterly appalling to me.
“And of course, the primary reason that we even have a president named Obama in office is spelled B-u-s-h.”
This discussion reminds me of the “bring em on” comments early in Iraq. In days of old when the King actually led men into battle I would accept those comments as real bravado, but not when they are made by someone thousands of miles and far removed from combat. I say the same about the good pastor.

I expect people to think when they read and respond to the words that are actually written. Forgive me.
General Petraeus is doing his job, both in working to get the war won under dire circumstances with an anti-American CinC, and in defending the lives of his troops from irresponsible morons.
I realize that Petraeus is trying to protect his troops in Afghanistan from these loons but I have a better idea: to quote from Ann Coulter, bomb them, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity! That works for me! and I am not a Christian. How about condemning the murderers of innocents?
What some people seem to be forgetting here is the issue of personal responsibility on the part of muslims who decide to kill people because of a news report.
The preacher would be responsible if he were affecting inanimate objects or non-human creatures without free will. If he burned a quran in a dry forest, one could hold him responsible for the resulting fire that destroyed a billion dollars worth of suburban property nearby. If he burned a quran under the beard of a lion, one could hold him responsible for getting the animal enraged enough to maul anyone it encountered in its rampage.
Muslims are not dry brush or lions. They are human beings with free will and the moral responsibility that attaches to it.
For comparison, consider the rapist argument: she asked for it, dressing like that; she chose her clothes foolishly; she provoked me; she should have stayed home, shut up, covered up. I’m not to blame! She is!
Yeah, I know. But I chirp, therefore I am. :0/
Fair enough, FRiend.
He knowingly put our troops in further danger by his "Look at ME!" behavior. He knowingly made our troops' work more difficult in a dangerous situation among dangerous people.
I didn't say he should be punished, but he should be castigated by anyone who supports the work of our troops in Afghanistan, and not praised. In that way, he should be held responsible for his reckless behavior.
No one is arguing that Islamofascists are not evil people who do evil things whether or not there is a 'cause.' But that doesn't excuse an American citizen who, as I said, knowingly puts our troops who are fighting this evil, in danger.
There is no excuse for this moronic pseudo-preacher's actions.
Hopefully his words here will help prevent others from doing stupid things for no reason that put our troops in danger.
How about those who draw cartoons? How should they be held responsible?
No need to waste good toilet paper!
Amen, I was going to call them worse than animals, but animals do not behave this way. They are barbarians and you cannot turn barbarians into model citizens. The Middle East is a waste of our valuable young men and women.
We need to forget about their oil and use our natural gas and start building our own refineries and drilling. No matter what we do, the terrorist will continue to grow.
