An independent RadioShack store in Montana is standing firm, refusing RadioShack Corp. headquarters' demand to stop giving away a firearm with each satellite dish sale -- a 5-month-old promotion that has proved widely popular and garnered national attention.
"Dish sales have tripled since October," when the promotion began, store manager Fabian Levy told the Star-Telegram on Thursday. "We got a call from a man in Texas asking if we knew of a RadioShack store with the same offer where he lives." (The answer is no.)
"My phone has been ringing nonstop," Levy said from Hamilton, Mont., 40 miles south of Missoula. "I've received calls from an air conditioning company in West Virginia and a mattress store in, I think, Minnesota that wants to run similar gun giveaways."
Levy says his franchised Dish Network sales are separate from his store's Radio-Shack business.
"We've got the contract right in front of us, and it doesn't say anything about this violating any [RadioShack franchise] rules," he said.

I think RadioShack is just stepping into the buzz saw by trying to strong arm this dealer into political correctness. We Americans like our guns and our rights. We don't like big Corporations who promote the culture war against the Constitution.
Sheesh, this Radio Shack is crazy. All they’re doing is promoting more gun violence. I think the government should come in and shut them down cold, for the good of the public.
Wasn’t there some guy who was giving away Barrett .50 BMG’s with the purchase of a Dodge Viper?
Of course if they were giving away condoms with children’s RC cars the store would be applauded throughout the media.
Our local Head Start (yes, Head Start) does a rifle raffle every year!
(Psssst, don’t tell them in Washington!)
Whenever you refer to political correctness,
it would be preferable to also refer to it by its original name
“cultural Marxism”. This is not a disparaging term, but the actual term that the originators used. They were smart enough, though, to know that any reference to Marxist beliefs would get some “push back” to say the least.
I used to live in Montana. Gun ownership is very high ~80% of households. Burglary of occupied dwellings is also very low. Coincidence???
They also have open carry and concealed carry without a permit under many circumstances (outside city limits and engaged in any activity in which personal protection might be necessary.)
I was walking down the street in Helena once carrying a newly purchased Springfield M1A. A city police car stopped abruptly, the two officers jumped out and said, “Dude, nice piece! May I look at it?”
April Fools to you too!
Is that you mayor Bloomberg? (LOL)
Grrrr....I was hoping to at least get past 10 AM EST with this!
Posted on the 1st but published on the 31st, so presumably not an April Fool’s joke. My immediate reaction is that their markup on satellite dishes must be unconscionable if they can afford to do this.
Maybe they should start giving away Radio Shack products with the purchase of a gun. “Buy a gun and we’ll give you some RadioShack crap to use for target practice”
Here in Boise a local car dealer has been having a “Buy a truck, get a gun” deal for years.
You forgot the /s tag. Expect some flames.

Uh, I gotta ask. When the two officers jumped out, was the year 1974, and were you wearing a military uniform, and were you getting ready for the 4th of July Parade? I honestly (and respectfully) cannot imagine the scene you descirbed.
The only possible reason why somebody would want to own a gun would be to kill someone else. All guns should be banned from private ownership IMMEDIATELY. Only the police should be allowed to have guns.
No, it was 2004 and I was dressed normally. In Montana, it was common to see persons walking down the street with guns especially during hunting season.
