I saw a flag at half mast here in FL today, and I said, I wonder who that is for. Could it be for this man?
Absolutely amazing. Thank you and God Bless you, Frank Buckles. Prayers for Corporal Buckles and his family.
Thank you for your service. Rest in peace.
And now WWI passes into history - like the Spanish-American War or the Civil War.
When the last soldier dies, a sense that we are part of that history dies with him. For those of us who grew up with WWI vets, it was a living war and living memory.
As of today, WWI will be nothing more than grainy black and photos in a text book.
RIP Frank Buckles and thank you!
Well put.
Wow, very sad to see a chapter close on our history.
My grandfather was a WWI vet, who died in the 1980s.
The last WWI vet I knew died at 107, a few years ago.
God bless you, sir and THANK YOU for your brave service to our country.

My grandfather was a WWI veteran. He courageously served in the 102nd Infantry, 26th (Yankee) Division in the trenches of France, alongside "Sergeant Stubby", the most decorated war dog of World War I.

I agree. When I was a small child in the early 1950s there were thousands of WWI and even quite a few Spanish American War vets still around. I think that there may have been a Civil War vet or two still alive at that time too.
May Cpl. Frank Buckles rest in God’s peace.
All honors to him and may he rest in peace.
Absolutely!
I remember when I was a kid, it seemed like most kids’ grandpas were WWI vets. Mine was too.
I’m getting old for sure.
Heaven's Bivouac:"All present and accounted for, sir".
God bless him.
God bless him. May he rest in peace.
There are still 2 WW1 Veterans alive, one in England and one in Australia.
At 109 and 110 themselves, they all will be gone before long.
Hey Frankie, thanks for your service, I will see you on the other side...Thanks Frankie...
