ROCK HILL, S.C. As Sarah Palin wonders whether to run for president, she might want to talk to people in places such as South Carolina.
She'd find her star fading, and her prospects daunting.
Republicans still like her, but now they openly question whether she could or should be nominated for president, let alone elected.
At a recent gathering in South Carolina, the site of a crucial early presidential primary next year, party activists said the former Alaska governor didn't have the experience, the knowledge of issues or the ability to get beyond folksy slang and bumper-sticker generalities that they think is needed to win and govern.
Many are shopping for someone else. They're looking at Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., for example, and seeing what they call a smarter, more experienced candidate who's equally as conservative.
"Sarah Palin with a brain," said Gail Moore, a Republican from Columbia.

Silly sod (in the article). Executives aren’t supposed to be creative, they’re supposed to be hardnosed and decisive.
Boy, it's gonna be hard to resist putting West on the ticket, given the above, but -- I don't think that West would pull a whole 20% of the black vote, due to Obama being the incumbent. Different dynamic at work this time around, you know?
It's hard to say whether Sarah would actually go with West or not. It could look like pandering for the black vote (and to many, it will). Tough call.
I think you are saying that you are tired of all the bitter wrangling both her and througout the country. But, the fury will transfer to whomever faces Obama, should Sarah decline to run.
West is awesome, but Rubio would break the stranglehold that the Dems have on Spanish voters. The choice of Rubio would drive the left INSANE!! Bob
Without that sparkle, she is just one of the pack. On balance I would rank her with Newt, since whereas he is more fertile in ideas, she has better character. What is working against her is her sex. The competition hates Palin, but she got there first, while the rest of the field was silent after the disaster of 2008. Remember, there was Rush and then there was Sarah. Bachman is the extra woman in the field. If Palin does not get in, of course, then Bachman will, but more likely to end up as VP. Of course, who knows how things will look by summer. Hell of a horserace, and you know how races go with that many horses in the field.
“These early pre-announcement polls mean absolutely nothing. Iowa and New Hampshire always change the dynamics of the game. But if you want to accept them as gospel, I will gladly revisit this issue in a year and ping you on it.”
Please, I implore you to ping me on it...
Romney or Palin will win the nomination.
Money in the bank.
“homey and down to earth - but now she has handlers - reminds me of the Redford movie The Candidate “
You watch to many movies. Palin is Palin. It’s BittRomney who has the gaggle of handlers of every stripe.
Of course running a national campaign will eventually lead to some campaign managers....but feel free to vote for the candidates that are pure and garner their 2-3 % of the vote.
Anyone who sticks up for pissant is a Troll!
“The rap on Hilary was that she was a wife, but she is tougher than Bill is.”
Which one of them won twice in presidential elections? Which one of them got knocked off by Obama after being anoined as front runner? Hillary would be a womyn’s studies instructor at some two bit college without Bill. She couldn’t hit the curve ball.
Blast it. Meant “anointed.”
Speaking of pandering, I fully expect that Obama`s running mate will be a white woman in 2012.
By comparison with whom? Obama? What experience did he have? What knowledge of issues does he have? Has he ever read from his teleprompter anything that wasn't a bumper sticker generality?
Get outta here with that nonsense! Big MO would pound his skinny ass through the floor if he even thought about it! LOL
The GOP contenders since RR are nothing but grand ole pu$$ies. That’s why we have Obama. He talked just a little better.
I don’t mean better. Bill is a natural politician, and no, I don’t think she wpuld have ever won elective office on her own. But don’t underestimate her. Bill certaintly did not marry her for her looks.
BTW, can we find a job for Karl Rove other than GOP analysis? what a total waste of skin. His day has come and gone.
Except for the fact that Sarah is exceptionally physically attractive, she has nothing to offer Republican voters in 2012. What does she (or her potential primary rivals, for that matter) really stand for? Not much
What was Palin’s memorable line in the “debate” with Biden? I surely can’t recall. She let Biden win, like Kemp did with Gore in 1996.
