(Bartlett, TN 2/21/2011) An eight month old pit bull puppy was shot dead by Bartlett Police.
Now, the owner wants answers. Police say they shot the dog because it charged them.
The owner says police had no reason to shoot the puppy because it was asleep inside a bathroom at his house.
"That was basically my best friend and they just came in here and killed her," said dog owner Maurice Flanagan.
Flanagan is talking about Lexus, his eight month old pit bull puppy. He has cell phone video taken just days before he says Bartlett Police shot and killed his dog. Friday morning Bartlett Police Department came to his North Memphis home to execute a search warrant.
A copy of the warrant says police were looking for drugs.
"They made us all get down on the ground. The officer said who is here? I said my dog is in the back and as soon as I got done saying that we heard like four shots go off.
A copy of the Investigative Inventory form shows police took a marijuana joint, digital scale, gun, cell phone and money. A check of Maurice Flanagan's Shelby County criminal history came back clean.

“Killing pit bulls is a good thing.”
Our beloved pit bull Brandy prevented a violent home invasion robbery in 1987 - are you filling in for Chet99? Your ignorance about the breed is obvious.
All dogs are equal, but some are more equal than others.
I’s suggest taking a running video cam out on the porch with you (before vidcams are deemed assault weapons by the BATF).
Be careful with that advice. In many states (including (m)assachusetts I believe) it is illegal to film the police.
I suppose you could ask their permission.
At least you could get them denying consent.
I think I'd stay inside and give them my phone number (it's in the book anyway).
More sacrifices on the altar of the drug war.
Actually I meant to say the only good pit bull is a dead one.
That’s funny, because I see drug paraphernalia used to measure drugs for sale, a (possibly illegal) gun, and (possible) drug proceeds. But I’m sure if this guy was your neighbor you and him would be good buddies, right?
Wow, shot a puppy. Real tough guys those cops.
Cheering the death of a puppy - your soul is as dead as your black heart.
After reading about how awful pit bulls are, I am often surprised when strangers approach my dog and tell me how much they love pit bulls.
It seems to be Standard Procedure for police to kill the family dog ....

Family dog??? Pit bulls are no family dog. More likely this was a dope dealer using a pit as “protection” against the cops in case he gets busted.
Was she spaded are did you add to the problem????
No, I’ll just give you the number one - as represented by my middle finger.
I send this to pit bull owners. Even though they already know how it is.

Well said, thank you.
Thanks, but I already had a good ideal of your IQ.
LOL!
