(Bartlett, TN 2/21/2011) An eight month old pit bull puppy was shot dead by Bartlett Police.
Now, the owner wants answers. Police say they shot the dog because it charged them.
The owner says police had no reason to shoot the puppy because it was asleep inside a bathroom at his house.
"That was basically my best friend and they just came in here and killed her," said dog owner Maurice Flanagan.
Flanagan is talking about Lexus, his eight month old pit bull puppy. He has cell phone video taken just days before he says Bartlett Police shot and killed his dog. Friday morning Bartlett Police Department came to his North Memphis home to execute a search warrant.
A copy of the warrant says police were looking for drugs.
"They made us all get down on the ground. The officer said who is here? I said my dog is in the back and as soon as I got done saying that we heard like four shots go off.
A copy of the Investigative Inventory form shows police took a marijuana joint, digital scale, gun, cell phone and money. A check of Maurice Flanagan's Shelby County criminal history came back clean.

Kicking in doors to rescue a bag of dope, or in this case a single joint... sad, truly sad...
Killing pit bulls is a good thing.
My thoughts exactly. One less killer in the world. And yes, I own two dogs (Great Pyrennes)
The “New Centurions” at work again, beating up the peasants.
Guess they are ticked off as the peasants have been complaining about their sick leave, salaries, bennies and other perks.
Your government wants you cowed. This is not about pit bulls.
The POS of choice by the drug crowd. Good shoot!!!
I own three, and one of them, a dachsund, is hostile to strangers. That dog is a great pet, but if the police have to come in my house and that dog gets shot, so be it.
I don’t expect a cop to take a bite in leg for the sake of a dog. Valuing dogs over humans is sick.
Don't forget that Maryland Cop who shot that funky looking poodle last year.
Killing anything is bad - hadn't your momma taught you? Unjustified killing is much worse. I think that police are getting paranoid and abusive, is it a generational thing or general public morality decline? Either way, I would not advice anybody to stop next to a cop and ask for directions - I did it once lately and we will never forget the rapidly changing cop's face color. He was genuinely scared!
My girlfriend has a dog like that. I'd shoot the barking little pest in a minute if I thought I could get away with it.
They are on the hitlist.
All dogs are on the cop’s hitlist.
How much did the “puppy” weigh?
A 40# pit can rip a baby to shreds like a wolverine.
A drug dealer with a pit bull???? no way
A few rules.
1. If the cops show up at your door always step outside and CLOSE THE DOOR behind you, then talk to them.
2. Never ever let a cop inside your home without a search warrant. EVER.
3. If you have an aggressive dog lock them in a room somewhere.
My Great Pyrennes are not aggressive however they are very judgmental of character. If they didn’t like a particular person (including a cop) look the eff out. I would never expose them to that though. If the cops were coming back with a warrant I would lock them up outside in their paddock.
What about the fact that "police dogs" are put on par w/humans?
Any assault/injury/death to a "police dog" is the same as if it were done to a person. Is that okay?
Excellent, safe, time-proven, and practical advice.
