Obama to Push New Spending State of Union Speech to Call for Boosting 'Competitiveness' While Nodding to Need for Budget Cuts
President Barack Obama will call for new government spending on infrastructure, education and research in his State of the Union address Tuesday, sharpening his response to Republicans in Congress who are demanding deep budget cuts, people familiar with the speech said.
Mr. Obama will argue that the U.S., even while trying to reduce its budget deficit, must make targeted investments to foster job growth and boost U.S. competitiveness in the world economy. The new spending could initiatives aimed at building the renewable-energy sectorwhich received billions of dollars in stimulus fundingand rebuilding roads to improve transportation, people familiar with the matter said. Money to restructure the No Child Left Behind law's testing mandates and institute more competitive grants also could be included.
In arguing that U.S. competitiveness is at stake, Mr. Obama plans to use his nationally televised speech to try to frame the spending debate with Republicans that is expected to dominate Congress in the coming months. "We seek to do everything we can to spur hiring and ensure our nation can compete with anybody on the planet," Mr. Obama said Friday after touring a General Electric Co. plant in Schenectady, N.Y. He cited clean-energy manufacturing, infrastructure and education as keys to competitiveness.

Hey, he read the book ... OPM! That is ‘Other People’s Money’.
He loves spending OPM, cause we have soooooooo much of it.
I truely wish someone would wake-up in Washington.
I think Axelrod found a magic combination years ago, and Obama uses it as some sort of incantation now. You name a problem -- any problem -- and it can be solved by spending on infrastructure, education, and green technology. I guess they think people respond to this. It's their swiss army knife.
Obama Sucks. He is a complete disaster. He will be gone in two years. He can not succeed. We just have to survive him.
The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the presidency. It will be easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to an electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails us. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The republic can survive a Barack Obama It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president. — Author Unknown
He intends to bankrupt this Nation.
“Targeted Investments” —> cronyism; political favors and payback; waste of good taxpayer money; failed “industrial policy.” Keep the money in the private sector and let it most efficiently allocate it to where it needs to go.
We can spend more money WHILE cutting the budget.
It’s so easy. :)
So it will be a campaign speech? I am so shocked. Will the GOP and dems be wearing t-shirts found on their seats?
We are screwed :(
This is insanity!
The climate change scammers also shut down a GE plant in Winchester, VA, sending those jobs over to China as well.

I am a hispanic male that moved from Kentucky to NC and now to Wyoming for a decent job that is sick of Obama’s spending.
Good luck with that Obambi. What part of “flat assed broke” is not sinking in?
Yeah......
Swedish taxes on Ethiopian wages.
Kenyan’s are strange that way.
While we have overspent for decades, it should be pointed out that the national debt when Bush took over was about $5.5 trillion. When he left it was around $9.65 trillion. Today it’s about $14.25 trillion.
We are very close to tripling the debt our nation owed just ten years ago today.
For heaven’s sake, they need to quit spending us into oblivion. Sadly, I think they know exactly what they are doing. By design they have spent us to the point that we cannot continue to be the global watch-dog.
By God, if we surrender on the issue of a strong defense, China will fill the void, and then heaven help everyone.
We have forgiven so many countries debt. We should ask the countries we owe to forgive our debt or just tell them that we won’t pay. I wonder what would happen.
