Obama to Push New Spending State of Union Speech to Call for Boosting 'Competitiveness' While Nodding to Need for Budget Cuts
President Barack Obama will call for new government spending on infrastructure, education and research in his State of the Union address Tuesday, sharpening his response to Republicans in Congress who are demanding deep budget cuts, people familiar with the speech said.
Mr. Obama will argue that the U.S., even while trying to reduce its budget deficit, must make targeted investments to foster job growth and boost U.S. competitiveness in the world economy. The new spending could initiatives aimed at building the renewable-energy sectorwhich received billions of dollars in stimulus fundingand rebuilding roads to improve transportation, people familiar with the matter said. Money to restructure the No Child Left Behind law's testing mandates and institute more competitive grants also could be included.
In arguing that U.S. competitiveness is at stake, Mr. Obama plans to use his nationally televised speech to try to frame the spending debate with Republicans that is expected to dominate Congress in the coming months. "We seek to do everything we can to spur hiring and ensure our nation can compete with anybody on the planet," Mr. Obama said Friday after touring a General Electric Co. plant in Schenectady, N.Y. He cited clean-energy manufacturing, infrastructure and education as keys to competitiveness.

He'll never get it, never........
That should be dead on arrival.
We did not send these guys to Washington to help Obama govern; we sent them to stop him.
so much for triangulation ..... Obama is toast in 2012.
Good idea. We need infrastructure to grease the skids to slide 0 outa office, need to educate the sheeple as to the fundamentals of America's greatness and the risk of 0think, and need to spend on research to make sure a S0r0$ puppet never makes it to the top of the heap again.
Yes we can. We are the ones we have been waiting for.

The greatest threat to our national security is our debt.
I was shown the figures the other day by the comptroller of the Pentagon that said that the interest on our debt is $571 billion in 2012, Mullen said at a breakfast hosted by The Hill. That is, noticeably, about the size of the defense budget. It is not sustainable.
“We are rapidly approaching the point at which we can no longer fund a robust defense system for the US and the Western world. Our ability to maintain forward strategies to engage and destroy terrorist networks will disappear, but not before we have to scale back our military presence around the world. We have overspent for decades across the board, and the interest payments on the national debt alone will cost us more than our defense systems on top of which the heavy burden of unfunded entitlement liabilities will start cresting as the Baby Boomers enter retirement. Steve Eggleston updates us on the quickening slide of Social Security into the red, just to remind us of that fact.”
new government spending on infrastructure, education and research... targeted investments to foster job growth and boost U.S. competitiveness in the world economyY'know, because it worked so well before. Research -- global warming and community organizing. Education -- global warming and community organizing. Targeted investments -- carbon credit scams and community organizing. Job growth -- public sector 'employment' and community organizing. Infrastructure -- concrete production creates CO2, so renewable technology (rickshaws over corderoy roads) and community organizing.
“...initiatives aimed at building the renewable-energy sector”
Hey, Obama, a “green” solar company that got $58,000,000 in taxpayer money closed its factory in MA and moved 800 jobs to China.
This guy is out of his mind.
He gets it. He wants more power of which he’ll never have enough.
Trouble is, he wants to compete with Zimbabwe
Obama Sucks. He is a complete disaster. He will be gone in two years. He can not succeed. We just have to survive him.
I thought you might get a kick out of this, because I remembered you telling me the exact same thing a few days ago(!):
—From the article posted:
“President Barack Obama will call for new government spending on infrastructure, education and research in his State of the Union address Tuesday.”
—What you said on another thread:
“When Obama campaigned, he said he would decrease the deficit. They asked him for specifics on where he would cut the budget.
Obama said: “I will cut the budget by investing in roads and bridges, investing in education, and in green technology.
In his first year in office, Obama said he would stimulate economic growth. They asked him how.
Obama said: “I will stimulate the economy by investing in roads and bridges, education, and green technology.
In his second year in office, Obama said that he could create millions of jobs. They asked him how he would create jobs.
bama said: “I will create millions of jobs by investing in roads and bridges, education, and green technology.
And now, Ladies and Gentlemen, we enter the third year ...
And the answer is still “investing in roads and bridges, education, and green technology.”
Taxpayer funded "targeted investments" are code for Democratic political payoffs to their cronies
Nothing more, nothing less
Real capitalist investment is targeted for regulation and all sort of government hurdles to kill it eventually
The man is a spending addict. He could start his own chapter of Spenders Anonymous. Hello, my name is Barry and I am Spender.Hello, Barry.....
Zero gets it......... but he believes capitalism is inherently evil and unfair and he must force us into an egalitarian world where capitalism is reigned in by government which is the answer to all problems.
I'd like to think that's true, that the new GOP House has some 'nads.
History tells me that by the time bummer's speech is over the House will be ordering a new box of checks. There's just so MUCH money in DC that it corrupts the vast majority of those who arrive there.
You compound that with the absolute refusal of the American Electorate (the majority of them) to give up anything and the outcome is certain.
I am sure this stunes all our beeber.
NOT
“...new government spending on infrastructure, education and research..”
What ever happened to the stimulus/QE money?
