In the aftermath of the attempted murder of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords earlier this month, lawmakers on Capitol Hill have proposed a cluster of gun control measures ranging from a ban to knowingly carrying a firearm within 1,000 feet of certain high-profile government officials to a proposal to allow members of Congress to carry firearms in the U.S. Capitol.
Rep. Carolyn McCarthy formally introduced her own bill on the House floor Tuesday that would ban high-capacity ammunition clips like the one Jared Loughner used to gun down 19 individuals in the Tucson shooting Jan. 8.
McCarthy, who is regarded as one of the toughest gun-control proponents on Capitol Hill, has dedicated her congressional service to reducing gun violence after a tragic incident in 1993 in which gunman Colin Ferguson unleashed a hail of bullets aboard a packed Long Island Railroad commuter train, and used 15-round magazines to kill six people, including McCarthy’s husband, and injured 19 more, including her son.
“I know what it’s like to have tragedy brought to your life in a split second by a madman with high-capacity ammunition magazines,” McCarthy said. “I’m working to stop it from happening again. We need comprehensive reform to reduce the number of people hurt or killed by gunfire in America, but one simple way we can do that is by keeping the worst tools of mass murder away from the general public. This nation has come together before to support this simple, commonsense measure, and it is the law in several states right now. It is a small sacrifice that law-abiding gun owners can make once again in order to increase everyone’s safety.”

Lets see, Loughner wants a hig capacity mag. There are none
because they are outlawed. Well he just saunters into a store, buys a 12 gauge pump shotgun with a collapsible stock, and puts in 6 rounds of buck shot.
He then goes out and kills twice as many as he would have with the mags he had.
McCarthy is an idiot.They could outlaw guns completely, and still the Loughners of this world would do what they do in the ME: make up bombs and throw them into the crowd.

My point is that with practice, a shooter can reload very quickly. And a really determined one can carry multiple firearms.
Someone with a 30-round magazine is most likely going to "spray and pray" anyway, and will be less lethal than someone that aims each shot.
And unless he really practices, aiming each shot will take almost the same time it takes to drop an empty magazine and load a new one.
yet again these clowns show they cannot understand the real world.

I heard Rep McCarty back in 1994 during her first campaign on Steve Malsberg’s show. Even though the detectives who searched Ferguson’s apt. found it cluttered with notebooks filled with anti-WHITE screeds, she, with a straight face flatly denied that the POS was racially motivated.This is more pathetic than when Mary Jo Buttafuco denied Joey was cheating on her. At least MaryJo eventually wised up and divorced the SOB.
Ferguson reloaded a couple of times during his racist hate-spree.
Which reminds me, for Christmas I got a gift certificate to our local gun shop. I was thinking it would be nice to have a couple more magazines for my AR15. Plus one of those belts so I can carry 4 at a time and do quick changes.
