The 1980s song Money for Nothing by the British rock band Dire Straits has been deemed unacceptable for play on Canadian radio. In a ruling released Wednesday, the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council says the song contravenes the human rights clauses of the Canadian Association of Broadcasters Code of Ethics and Equitable Portrayal Code. A listener to radio station CHOZ-FM in St. John's complained last year that the song includes the word faggot in its lyrics and is discriminatory to gays. The broadcaster argued that the song had been played countless times since its release decades ago and has won music industry awards. A CBSC panel concluded that the word faggot, even if once acceptable, has evolved to become unacceptable in most circumstances. The panel noted that Money for Nothing would be acceptable for broadcast if suitably edited.

I’m curious about their position on rap lyrics and slurs toward women.
Political correctness is one of the few movements that reduce the words available in any given language.
Find these people, isolate them, lock them in a room, and force them to listen to rap crap until death.
That’s just gay.
If you listen to the lyrics, the “character” using the slur in the song is the point of ridicule of the song. This is like banning Hucklebrry Finn because it has the N word.
I would guess n*ggas and b*tches in song lyrics are protected due to the ethic component.
This guy needs to be locked up 'til he gets his mind right.
When did faggot become a slur.? I hear gay people use it all the time.
Pssht.
Next thing ya know - these liberal loonies are gonna go after Mark Twain’s; ‘Huckleberry Finn’.
(Wait - what?)
that little faggot he's a millionaire.
We gotta install microwave ovens..."
That would satisfy the gay community I bet...
I wonder if they’ll play “Les Boys” from ‘Making Movies’
les boys do cabaret
les boys are glad to be gay
they’re not afraid now
disco bar in germany
les boys are glad to be
upon parade now
les boys got leather straps
les boys got ss caps
but they got no gun now
get dressed up get a little risque
got to do a little s & m these days
it’s all in fun now
les boys come on again
for the high class whores
and the businessmen
who drive in their mercedes benz
to a disco bar in old munchen
they get the jokes that the d.j. makes
they get nervous and they make mistakes
they’re bad for business
some tourists take a photograph
les boys don’t get one lough
he says they’re useless
late at night when they’ve gone away
les boys dream of jean genet
high heel shoes and a black berret
and the posters on the wall that say
les boys do cabaret
les boys are glad to be gay
Canada bans Disney for the use of Tinker Bell. Considers the term hateful..../s
"Money For Nothing" is actually one of my least favorite Dire Straits songs but guess what, I'm going to download it off iTunes when I get home tonight.
Got to move those refrigerators...got to move those color TVs!
And it only took 30 years. Did the offended send it’s request thorough the Canadian health care system?
Did they just get tired of writing/touring? Lost the creative edge and thought it best to hang it up?
Im curious about their position on rap lyrics and slurs toward women.
Well, if it is white women it’s OK.
Check out I Tunes and “Song for Sonny Liston”...just awesome. I like “Cleaning My Gun” ,too.
(Just the band’s name implies hateful, exclusive rhetoric....”straights” ?? why not “Dire Androgynous People” ?)
LOL. The song features PC poster boy Sting on some of the lyrics.
I saw the video on VH-1 Classic a week or two ago and didn’t even pay attention to if it had been PC sanitized.
