(RTTNews) - A prominent Tea Party group sent a message to members on Monday identifying five current Republican Senators that they intend to target in 2012.
Tea Party Nation named Sens. Dick Lugar, R-Ind., Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, Olympia Snowe, R-Maine, Scott Brown, R-Mass., and Bob Corker, R-Tenn., as Republicans that need to be sent into retirement, accusing them of being Republicans In Name Only, or RINOs.
The message cited Lugar's vote against a ban on earmarks as well as a his votes in favor of the DREAM Act and the START Treaty. Hatch was also criticized for being a "pork king" and a co-sponsor of the DREAM Act, which would have provided a path to citizenship for certain young illegal immigrants.
Tea Party Nation blasted Snowe for her votes in favor of the health care reform bill, the START Treaty, and the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," while the group called Brown " the biggest disappointment of the last year."
Judson Phillips, the founder of Tea Party Nation, said Corker is the group's top target, because he "has done many things to sell out the conservative Tennesseans who put him in office."
"The good news for 2012 is that so many liberals are up for reelection, Republicans are guaranteed control of the Senate and we do not have to pinch our noses this time and support a RINO to prevent liberal control of the Senate," Phillips said.
He added, "2012 will be a very good year for the Tea Party movement and RINO is on the menu!"
Tea Party members had success in a number of Republican Senate primaries in 2010, including in Utah, Florida, Nevada, and Delaware, although their results in the general election were more mixed.
OK. Then you agree there is no reason to waste resources in MA and ME
Honey, your hero and savior, Saint Sarah actively campaigned for this piece of trash. 6 more years until we can pull the plug.
NO PASSES NOR EXCUSES! We keep making compromises and keep “moving the goal line”. The 2 hags from Maine have voted for every Dem-sponsored bill and we should give them a “pass”??
Keep the pressure on!
I agree with destroying the RINOs, but with most seats up for grabs in 2012 being Hussein-cultist Party seats, I hope we’d focus MOST of our attention on those seats.
Damn, think about it...we’re only about 15 seats away from a super majority....
As far as Scott Brown is concerned, he can shove it. He will never get a single dime from me again.
Put Nebraska Senator Mike Johanns on that list! The RINO rump swab voted:
FOR S510, the Food “Safety” Bill...
FOR forced Unionization of Public Safety employees, and...
FOR the New START Treaty!
Mike Johanns is a double-talking, two-faced establishment party hack... and he needs to be sent packing in 2012.
That's not what I said or implied.
“...Maybe we will get lucky and barney will upgrade.”
Maybe we will get lucky, and Bawney will choke on his boyfriend, and drop dead.
“Why should a good conservative Catholic from the Bay state vote for Brown after his DADT vote?”
Why should a good conservative Catholic from the GAY state vote for Brown after his DADT vote?”
Fixed it.
I’m good with that list. Send them all home.
Each state is different, and we need to make sure we can elect the most conservative and electable (IE no foot in mouth idiots) candidate possible in that state.
The only way I can see someone better from Maine than Collins/Snowe is if some French Canadien or Irish union member candidate from Lewiston with experience run as a right-populist and sweep the old rural areas and win Lewiston, while not getting completely killed in Portland and the snob areas. Possible? Yes. Probable? No.
“This is a list of Senators not House members.”
Then why is Representative Adrian Smith (R-NE) on this list?
Stop w/your picking YOUR target - Alinksy tactic.
The citizens of AZ voted for the candidate they wanted. Why don’t you know that? How old are you?
‘When do we get a chance to get rid of McStain?’
As others have said, he isn’t up till 2016. He has implied he’ll be retiring at that point.
PERHAPS, you are the last to know - SARAH is a world shaker.
And that’s not a damn thing you can do about it but p*ss and whine like a liberal.
I agree. There’s no sense in shooting ourselves in the foot. I doubt we can improve on Snowe or Brown. We can never achieve absolute perfection in each state. We will do well to get control of the senate with a strong contingent of conservatives. People need to be realistic. It will take many election cycles to restore fiscal, judicial and constitutional sanity to this country. It can only be done through incremental attrition. There aren’t enough people left at this point who understand that the beauty of freedom and prosperity are built into our constitution through our founding principles. Many don’t even know what the constitution is.
Restoration will take a generation or more.
I agree. Lugar is Job #1.
This illustrates the dangers of a so-called “national” Tea Party organization. They are only as good - or as smart - as their “leaders,” and this one is dumb. A true TP leader is not a media whore with an inflated sense of self-importance, and a true TP leader does NOT make a profit from the movement.
When we allow someone to purportedly speak for the TP movement nationally, we ALL run the risk of one of these blowhards making a stupid statement, which the media will be only to happy to report ubiquitously. That puts the rest of us on the defensive - explaining away positions and/or endorsements that reflect NO national consensus.
All that being said, Brown and Snowe do not belong on this list - conservatives cannot win those seats, and I would rather have anyone with an (R) next to their names (IN THOSE SEATS) for counting purposes, if nothing else.
That (R) just might result in a Senate majority, the implications of which go far beyond making a statement about RINOs. IF we had a super-majority in the Senate, we could afford to punish RINOs like those two, but until then, in some seats we have to take what we can get.
Is there someone the SC Tea Partiers / conservatives and/or Jim DeMint’s PAC have in mind to ground graham? (It’s not too early to be looking.)
Lugar’s campaign comittee sent me a mailer yesterday. I wrote in sharpie across the donation form “The Tea Party is going to primary your sorry RINO ass” and included 2 cents in the envelope.
