The snow is causing travel chaos across the eastern US.

A swathe of the US eastern seaboard is braced for an intensifying winter storm that is dumping heavy snow as it sweeps north.

Hundreds of flights have been cancelled and severe weather warnings are in place from Georgia to Vermont as temperatures continue to plummet.

Blizzards dropping up to 1ft (31cm) of snow are expected to hit New York and parts of New England.

South Carolina had its first Christmas snow since records began in 1887.

L/Cpl Bill Rhyne, of South Carolina Highway Patrol, said people were heeding warnings to stay off the roads.

Transport officials in Washington DC deployed 200 salting lorries, snow ploughs and other equipment to tackle the expected 6in of snow expected across the Mid-Atlantic region.

Blizzard warnings were in effect for Rhode Island and most of eastern Massachusetts including Boston. Forecasters predicted more than 1ft of snow from midday on Sunday until late afternoon.

States of emergency

Up to 18in of snow was predicted to fall on the New Jersey coast, with wind gusts of more than 40mph (64km/h).

Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina had declared states of emergency by early Sunday.

Sorry, tih....I agree with JRandom about not having your dog like that in the car..

My windows are down, but not DOWN for my kids when we’re driving. They are animals, you never know who or what will set them off and bam, out the window they go.

When it happens to you in Iowa, its “not a biggie”, but if the libs in NYC get inconvenienced, its a disaster!....

Pretty sure. They were busted up pretty bad. Blunt trauma from a fall can do a number on the internal organs. I do remember the first doc doing the laproscopy saying "Oy, he's f**ked". Then they unzippered me from breastbone to pubes.

They kept me open for almost 48 hours to stop the bleeders.

The didn't bother treating/not treating the broken ribs/vertebrae until they were sure I wouldn't bleed out (17 units of blood later).

And then when it was all good, they realized the ribs weren't bothering me because my left lung was full of fluid, and keeping the bones from grating, and they did the chest tube.

I hope to never experience that again.

But, I lived. One of those things.

Girly-men wouldn't understand.

Our first winter in S.TN was in 1969 and we had a white Christmas that year. It was also the first time any of us had ever seen snow. Christmas 2010 was the first white Christmas in 41 years. I was told that this Christmas was only the third white Christmas in my area in 100 years.

but since this one is happening in NY,NY - it will be America’s Storm to End All Storms on the nets and news channels on TV - so I’ll watch something else :)

Minnesota bump. 51 inches of snow this month where I live, and I'm not even in the snow belt where it's really bad. Listening to media whenever the East Coast gets a little weather is both a little funny and a little sickening.

And if they knew the stuff I had already run through that kidney in the last half century, they couldn't have given it away. ;)

I finally found my gloves and went back out (I still had my truck running).

Where I shoveled there was an additional 2 inches.....so I reshoveled. 1/2 of the truck barely had any show, the other 1/2, including my front end and windshield had about 6-8 inches.

Cleared it all off, but I don’t think it will make much of a difference since the worst of it is supposed to come during the night.

Hopefully, my back and neck will hold out (so far, so good).

I did go past the driveway a bit, but I think the overnight snow is going to do me in!

Now it is time for an adult beverage!

you neednt apologize, as I didn't seek your approval. Many people have many happy memories thanks to my brother and his dog. Occasionally some sourpuss would venture their unsolicited advice but, you know, sometimes it just be's that way.

“51 inches of snow this month where I live”

Over 70 inches here in Syracuse this month alone...so when they gush about “a FOOT of snow”, it makes us laugh...

LOL! If he's got 'em he can have 'em. I'm ok without them. Me and those organs, we never talked much anyway... But he's also going to have an urge to hit his knees and pray.

It would be JD Black Label, BTW, and not some trash like JB.

And the PCBs from the transformers and capacitors and the lead from the soldering when I was doing the DOD contractor thing.

Life is risky. No point in losing your critters by being dumb about leaving a window down.

And I am grateful that it's just dang cold where I am, and no white stuff on the ground.

Prayers up for good folks in the Northeast.

While I totally agree with you, the caption says the traffic was stopped. I would have to assume that when the cars start going again they would roll up the window. I’m sure that it’s pretty chilly with it rolled down at 50 mph.

See, you are in the part of the country that is getting hammered. We’ve had three snowfalls as bad as the East Coast is getting since December 1 and we may get another one on New Year’s Eve.

That's just wrong. I've seen 2 dogs bust like ripe watermelons after jumping/falling from an open window or back of a truck.

I'm not buying it. I've been carting around dogs all my life and never once have I had a dog jump from the window. Not even from a parked car. Dogs are not stupid.
