PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Federal agents in a sting operation arrested a Somali-born teenager just as he tried blowing up a van he believed was loaded with explosives at a crowded Christmas tree lighting ceremony in Portland, authorities said.
The bomb was an elaborate fake supplied by the agents and the public was never in danger, authorities said.
Mohamed Osman Mohamud, 19, was arrested at 5:40 p.m. Friday just after he dialed a cell phone that he thought would set off the blast but instead brought federal agents and police swooping down on him.
Yelling "Allahu Akbar!" — Arabic for "God is great!" — Mohamud tried to kick agents and police after he was taken into custody, according to prosecutors.

Bottom line is that they were able to sift through the hundreds of thousands of 19-year-olds with delusional mania in the US and identify this Islamist terrorist-intender.
What continues to be suicidal on our part is the incredible amount of resources that where devoted to coax this one potential terrorist into taking an act sufficient to justify arrest. How may other terrorist intenders could have been identified and rendered harmless at far less cost if the ACLU and extremist coddling jurists weren't insisting that these terrorists are entitled to US citizen protections rather than being treated as self-appointed enemy combatants?
I don't think "even in Oregon" is valid anymore. Judging from the last few attempts it seems these guys are targeting the more liberal places and sanctuary cities where they get easier treatment, less scrutiny or suspicion and even public assistance with housing, tuition etc.
Doesn't that make this a hate crime on top of the terrorism charge? After all, he was obviously targeting Christians.

Why not?
Just because they aren't from Kenya doesn't mean that they aren't qualified to use our system and become POTUS some day and make their mark.
The best, lowest cost, most effective anti-terror measure would be to simply not allow anyone directly (or via 3rd country) from Pakistan, Somalia, Yemen, Afghanistan or Morrocco into the the United States.
But Obama would rather humiliate average Americans instead.
CAIR will get their lawyers on the Christmas tree thing and stop it dead. Obama will have a list, check it twice if anyone is using a “Christmas Tree” this “holiday” season. From now on the Christmas tree will be called the Tammuztree or mecca tree of peace. Anyone using Christ’s name, or carrying a Bible will soon be an”extremist” right wing act of provocation to Islam; just wait a week or two.

While technically this 19 year old MAN is a “teenager”, the use of the term is misleading. We have people in combat older than him.
