Three environmental groups sued the Environmental Protection Agency on Tuesday to force it to prevent lead poisoning of wildlife from spent ammunition and lost fishing tackle.
The lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court by the Center for Biological Diversity, Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility and the hunters group Project Gutpile. It comes after the EPA denied their petition to ban lead ammunition and lead fishing tackle, which the groups say kills 10 million to 20 million birds and other animals a year by lead poisoning.
"The EPA has the ability to protect America's wildlife from ongoing preventable lead poisoning, but continues to shirk its responsibility," said Jeff Miller, conservation advocate with the Center for Biological Diversity.
The lawsuit asks a judge to order the EPA to develop rules to prevent wildlife poisoning from spent lead ammunition and fishing tackle.

The previous effort was direct petition of the EPA. Not having gotten satisfaction, they are now suing in the Federal Court.
That’s the left, get a judge to force an agenda on the people.
What they fail to mention is that the lead poisoning most of these birds and animals die from is 1 ounce of #6 shot and 150 grn 30 caliber. Lead poisoning in birds and animals ranks in with the DDT scare, it is mostly BS and designed to keep us from buying ammo.
Stupid ones do. Seems like Darwin's theory plays a part here.
“Do birds really eat lead shot?”
They do! They do! I’ve seen it!
Wile E. Coyote poured birdseed over a pile of shot and that wacky Roadrunner ate it all down!
I’m sure the EPA has seen the same scientific documentary that I did.
Get rid of the EPA all together. NOTHING they do that has any value to public safety can't be taken over by other federal law enforcement agencies. Another redundant alphabet soup agency that is ever trying to expand their role but in reality has none. They spend a large share of their resources “selling themselves” to the public while in reality all they do is bog those that want to be productive down with red tape and forms that need filed in triplicate. A horrible tooth to tail ratio and generating millions (literally) of files they could be rolled up inside another agency with 1/2 their size, able to accomplish the same task. But it sounds good to have an EPA, doesn't it? Sort of like when the war on drugs was a big deal and the DEA was created. Sounds good!
Under the guise of helping wildlife, the Center for Biological Diversity is actually an anti-four wheel drive, hunting and fishing organization. They are doing everything they can to close dirt roads and kill the sports of hunting and fishing in the U.S.A.
“Center for Biological Diversity, Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility and the hunters group Project Gutpile”
Center for Biological Diversity? SOunds so..... politically correct.
Project Gutpile??? They should investigate COngress.
In U.S., Continuing Record-Low Support for Stricter Gun Control - Fewer than 3 in 10 support law...
Standard leftist MO, when they can't get something done through their feckless politicians, they get it done through sympathetic courts.
Lead poisoning in birds and animals ranks in with the DDT scare, it is mostly BS and designed to keep us from buying ammo.I was going to mention the DDT scam.
They make sh*t up, because they have an agenda, and the sh*t they make up doesn't have anything to do with the actual, real agenda.
I try to be as helpful as possible in these sorts of situations.
All anyone has to do is knock on my door, tell me they are from the EPA (or some environmental group), and that they want my lead ammunition and I will give them some of it.
See, that’s the problem. It’s actually twofold.
One, they don’t have anything REAL to worry about in their lives, so they have to find some sort of crisis to solve.
Two, they have the human desire to be significant, and therefore have to seek out some “cause” to get behind in order to feel morally superior to others who “don’t care”.
They probably count game animals struck and killed by lead bullets and shot as having died of "lead poisoning".
...and I suppose in a WAY it's true...
;-)
How many people around the world esp. in Asia have died from malaria due to the DDT ban? It’s people vs animals .... now in Florida you have dengue fever cropping up ...
The EPA was created in 1970, during the adminstration of WHAT U.S. president?
Anyone?
Anyone?
which the groups say kills 10 million to 20 million birds and other animals a year by lead poisoning.
PROVE IT! The EPA found no such thing when they decided they were NOT going to ban lead.
So come on big mouths...PROVE your ridiculous claims.
Millions of birds, it should be super easy to get a picture of a hundred thousand piled up, all dead of lead poisoning...
