Four leading House Republicans, citing national security concerns, are urging Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner to block the sale of a Wyoming-based uranium mine to an arm of the Russian government's main nuclear agency.
The lawmakers are raising alarm over the proposed sale of a Powder River Basin, Wyoming-based uranium processing facility operated by Uranium One USA, a Canadian-based company, to Atomredmetzoloto, a subsidiary of the Russian government agency Rosatom, according to a letter obtained Tuesday by The Washington Times.
The sale was first announced on Aug. 31, and the lawmakers claim that it could give Moscow control of up to 20 percent of the U.S. national uranium extraction capability and a controlling interest in one of the country's largest uranium mining sites.
A fact sheet on the website of Uranium One says the company intends to complete the transaction by the end of the year. The Russian concern already owns a 23.1 percent share of Uranium One's common stock and is seeking a controlling 51 percent share in the subsidiary.
The lawmakers ...also express concern that Rosatom in the past has been involved in energy deals with Iran, including design work and the training of Iranian scientists for the Bushehr nuclear power plant that went online in August.
Rosatom also has worked closely with Burmese scientists over U.S. objections.

Talk about sedition and/or espionage... this is “IT”...
WHAT THE H@LL!?
ARMZ is controlled by the Russian Atomic Energy Corp., Rosatom, which is an agency of the Russian government that supplied uranium to Irans first nuclear power plant.
No threat
It wasn’t so long ago Russia invaded the Province of Georgia ... Iran is dealing with North Korea and with Venezuela.
If you trust this den of thieves, you need a brain scan.

This has nothing to do with trust. It’s about money. My question is how a Canadian company got control of the mine in the first place.
Man, oh, man. So, the uranium for Iran’s non-existent (/s) nuke facilities to blow the $#it out of whoever comes at least in part from US.
Let me see if I understand this right:
We can’t have Yucca Mt. as a nuclear waste facility because transporting nuclear waste on our rail system is so dangerous that it shouldn’t even be considered, but we CAN allow our enemies to dig Uranium out of OUR mines and transport it by rail and then boat across the planet to our enemies so they can build nuclear weapons to use against us?
Beam my up Scottie, there’s no intelligent life here.
While the article says there is no threat, having control over uranium production in the US is a wet dream for the former Soviet Union. I don’t like it. Period.
Have we so little investors or are the one’s left just taking their retirements and leaving the country?
This is all about controlling the world’s energy supplies. Just today it was announced that the ChiComs want to buy a substantial interest in domestic oil and gas. The Russians are horning in on our uranium.
The U.S. is quickly devolving into a Third World economy, while our potential enemies laugh at our environment laws and take the lead in energy production to fuel their industrial empires.

Kill the people with 0bama Deathcare, EPA AGW crap regs and who-knows-what taxes that starve us. And sell the land’s richness and resources right out from under us.
But, hey, since when didn’t FR know that this was the plan?
“......how a Canadian company got control of the mine in the first place.”
I don’t know for a fact, BUT I suspect Bill Clinton. He’s been quite active with specific Canadians in wheeling and dealing mines World wide.
Time to sharpen the blade on the guillotine.
Where did you see that?
Well said
Holy smokems. This is most disturbing to say the least. And Raybrr’s comment as to what the heck was the deal with the Canadian company having such influence in the mine operation was well taken.
The mine WILL be sold to Russia. There are some oil projects here in the US that are also being sold to both Russia and China. Remember that Russia also holds hundreds of billions of our debt and can totally screw up our energy supplies by contacting Iran and Venezuela and having them cut us off and can also cut off Europe.
The Russians want in on some of our Alaskan oil and in the Gulf of Mexico. In fact, I believe that they already own stakes in some of the Purdhoe bay oil fields.
