Liberal groups to gather in D.C. for One Nation rally
Washington Post ^ | September 30, 2010

Posted on 09/30/2010 8:20:00 AM PDT by La Lydia

Liberal groups hoping to revive enthusiasm before November's midterm elections are encouraging their members to come to the Mall on Saturday for a rally that they expect to draw tens of thousands of people. Their goal is to reclaim the excitement that surged among left-leaning groups after the 2008 presidential race...

The organizers of this weekend's rally, dubbed One Nation Working Together, are calling it the "most diverse march in history." The amalgam of 400 progressive groups - including environmentalists, antiwar activists, church and civil rights groups, union organizers and gay rights coalitions - is planning four hours of speeches, songs and poetry...

One Nation's organizers, hoping to compete with the tea party movement, will try to hold the groups together as a revived political force if their rally is successful. They are promoting the event through their network of groups, on liberal radio and on television host Ed Schultz's show...

The groups involved represent many of President Obama's core supporters, including the National Council of La Raza, the NAACP, the AFL-CIO, the Service Employees International Union and the U.S. Student Association. The rally is separate from the Democratic Party's plan to spend $50 million to try to reach those same voters, though Organizing for America...

Organizers' expectations are high, though leaders were still trying to raise money to bring 50,000 students to the event. A plan by Comedy Central television hosts Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert to hold dueling rallies on Oct. 30 could appeal to some potential One Nation participants, creating competition for liberal-leaning would-be activists.

Unlike Beck's rally, in which overt politics took a back seat to religious and patriotic themes, the progressive groups will repeatedly remind attendees to vote in the midterm elections, said Arlene Holt Baker, executive vice president of the AFL-CIO....

I counted over 85 sponsors. Glenn Beck had only one, himself, IIRC.

I doubt they get 10% of the turnout Glenn got.

Dark and lonely on a summer's night.
Kill my landlord. Kill my landlord.
Watchdog barking. Do he bite?
Kill my landlord. Kill my landlord.
Slip in his window. Break his neck.
Then his house I start to wreck.
Got no reason. What the heck?
Kill my landlord. Kill my landlord. C-I-L-L my land lord!

Should be kind of interesting to see how some of the rank and file union members who often oppose illegal immigration deal with the pro illegal crowd.

Everyone needs to put LaLydia’s link (#2) on their Facebook page so that WHEN they see these people plastered all over TV on Saturday, they know who they're watching.

I noted on another thread that the Tea Party distributed form of organization is similar to what the left has done for decades. They have unions, 1000’s on single interest non-profits, educators, universities, media outlets, etc. . . . all distributed. Take one down, like Acorn, and they just move to another org. We can’t underestimate them . . . and we can’t stop. Nov. 2 is a starting point. We have to work harder AFTER or we lose. Why? Because the left orgs have billionaire funders like Soros, government taxpayer money coming in buckets from 1000’s of different programs, bills, grants, earmarks and the like, complusory union dues, socially compulsory things (like a kid needing an education and degree) etc. They are on the payrolls, we are just volunteering. And we still can kick their fannies because we are Americans and we are the majority.

Agreed. It might take decades to root the marxists out of our government, beauracracies, schools etc.

It will be sunny...but standing in the mud while the temperatures start the day around 50 isn’t going to be pleasant...the tropical storm has SATURATED the ground; it will NEVER dry out in time.

The Parks Service had better schedule three times the Beck rally staff for cleanup, if they get 10% as many attending!

I'll bet they'll get along just fine. We're talking the SEIU, which no doubt depends on illegals for their numbers, and will thouroughly coach the warm bodies they deliver to the site. Pro-illegal is a huge theme for them, so the democrat party certainly won't allow any diversity there.

That rank and file attends Tea Party rallies anyway, not this stuff.

May the stage collapse, the mikes short out and the wind tear the tents to shreds.....may it be a complete and total disaster....Lord let it be!! Bring Your wrath down on these haters of You,this great land and the freedoms and liberty You provide us.
Let the ghosts of the revolutionary patriot heroes of the past
stun them, harass them and shake them to their core.Let them have no peace,no rest, and no foothold...Let It be,Father,I Pray fervently!!!! AMEN!!!

This is supposed to motivate the democrat base, make 'em feel like they're part of something big, new, and exciting.

But then you see this: four hours of speeches, songs and poetry

And you realize the script they are using is still 1968 Woodstock.

True, but they are the biggest ‘union’ actor here. I think they kind of took the agitprop mantle from ACORN, post Breitbart. Their business is to fill buses and pack democrat events.

100% agree and I worry about the structure. We don’t believe in the Republican organizations anymore. They betrayed us and gave us left wing candidates. So we are starving the paid operatives by not giving donations. Meanwhile Tea Party is volunteer. How long will the energy last and how much can we do in a tough economy? I’d give 2x, 10x as much if I had a little more extra. Same with time.

We 100% have to level the playing field and defund the left — ruthlessly and courageously or over time the “professional army” of left unions, professors, reporters, activists, non-profits, community groups, etc., will grind down the volunteers. It’s a paid job for them. At least that’s my concern.

Defund the left.

Defund the left.

Defund the left.
