Liberals Losing the Culture Wars
HUMAN EVENTS ^ | 09/03/2010 | Roger Hedgecock

Posted on 09/03/2010 10:36:13 PM PDT by neverdem

For decades, liberals won the culture wars and, consequently most of the elections that reshaped America. More than politics is changing in this crossroads year of 2010—Americans are reasserting traditional culture. You won't read or see it in the mainstream media, but this fact is driving the political story.

The Republican Party is not resurgent (although it may be the beneficiary); America is resurgent.

Generations of Americans have never known any culture except the progressive, politically correct left.

Beginning in the 1960s, God was driven out of American public life because liberals said the Constitution demanded a separation of church and state.

Planned Parenthood was part of a campaign that convinced many Americans that killing unborn babies was really a defense of a woman's constitutional right to choose.

The ACLU sued to define "free speech" to include vandalism, sacrilegious art, and spitting on returning veterans of the Vietnam War.

Even more depressing, the drive for equal rights for liberated slaves, begun by Republicans during and after the Civil War, morphed into a liberal affirmative action program which reintroduced privilege based on skin color.

In 2010, the tide has turned.

This year, liberals demanded Americans respect the triumphalist mosque near Ground Zero as an expression of American commitment to religious freedom. At the same time, liberals sued to remove a cross in a remote area of California's Mojave Desert and sponsored hate crime legislation that would put Christian pastors in jail for reading Biblical passages condemning homosexuality.

The hypocrisy had gone too far. Americans noticed the one-sidedness; they saw “The Agenda” at work. Americans by 70% oppose the Ground Zero mosque and Obama's support of it has hurt him and his party going into November. The liberals lost the culture conflict and, consequently, the political momentum.

In the 2008 campaign, liberals promised Planned Parenthood that healthcare "reform" would include all "reproductive services" (read: federally funded abortions). But in the debate over healthcare legislation, Rep. Bart Stupak and a small band of pro-life Democrats joined with Republicans in demanding the continuation of a ban on federally funded abortions.

Based on promises made by Pelosi and Reid, Stupak and enough others caved and the "reform" passed. But the "ban" was watered down in the final bill drafted in secret; abortion coverage was made subject to further rule-making by the federal bureaucracy.

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius was given the power to write regulations governing required coverage in all health insurance plans under the Obamacare bill. A notorious pro-abortion advocate, Sebelius prepared to require abortion as a covered procedure, with federal funding for those who could not afford it.

The deception was too obvious. Americans noticed. Obama, Reid, and Pelosi would say or do anything (or bribe anyone) to advance a federal takeover of our healthcare choices.

Americans by 60-70% want this "reform" repealed. Obama and Co. won the legislative battle, but lost the culture. Now they are losing the politics as well.

The Obamacare debate awakened what Nixon called the "Silent Majority." Silent no more, the Tea Party gatherings starting in the summer of 2009 galvanized American grassroots opposition. Liberal attempts to scold, denigrate, and marginalize this movement backfired. Now, incumbents of both parties are being thrown out of office in a political bloodbath that will reach a crescendo in November.

Al Sharpton's pathetic counter demonstration to Glenn Beck’s “Restoring Honor” event in D.C. is only the latest highlight of the perversion of the civil rights movement by its current self proclaimed "leaders." More and more American blacks have come to realize that the Democratic government plantation is not so different from the Democrat's original version in the pre-Civil War South. Dependency is dependency. A welfare check and food stamps are doled out by the new "massa”—same as the old "massa".

Americans of all backgrounds have noticed. Equality of opportunity has degenerated into new privileges based on skin color. Most Americans want a return to an opportunity society with "equal justice for all." The Voting Rights Act should apply to the New Black Panthers, too.

Too many commentators have looked only to the economy and Obama's failed economic policies to explain the Democrats swift fall from grace and the growing belief that the November election will turn the House, and maybe the Senate, over to the Republicans.

Underlying all politics is the culture. It is changing. The dominant liberal culture has yielded division and decay in American society—and a government-directed economy destroying our standard of living. The rejection of liberal culture has begun; the rejection of liberal politics will follow.

We still are going to have lots of those who will always be on the liberal side.

But what has happened is that a lot of people on the Conservative and undecided side have woken up and taken notice of what is going on and is starting to get serious.

We now have, and will continue to have, two groups of people in this country with two very different and separate views of how things should be.

How this plays out long term is not going to be pretty (in my humble opinion)...

I believe you misunderstood what Drew said sunshine.

He said that what the Left has done to society has progressed to the point that a return to the conservative values of past societies is no longer possible. We have gotten so far off the tracks that we will continue to follow the ruts we ended up in.

I happen to agree with him and a have a book that says he is right too. It's called the Bible and it pretty much describes what has been happening and also has a fix in the mill - one that men cannot and will not manage on their own.

I like this. The culture aspect is often overlooked. When it is mentioned the response from the left is,”oh,those evil conservatives want to take us back to the back old days.”

I made a statement like this several months ago on a thread, how unions were necessary early on in the industrial revolution, and man i have to tell you i was hit from 17 different directions. I am glad the discourse here changed.

Not a surprise; no one is alive today that remembers the strife. Church leaders came out and fought for what was called a “living wage” where a family man could earn enough to support a family, get a roof over his head, clothes on his back and a pension in old age. Unfortunately, the Reds (as always) saw it as an opportunity to infiltrate the union movement as part of their great lie of the worker vs. the owners of production. Americans were correctly suspicious of this entanglement, however, management used it as an angle to continue their abuse on “patriotic” grounds (as did the slaveowners prior to the Civil War.) I expect vitriol to be thrown at me, that’s ok, it’s a free country still (kind of). But unless you’ve read the history of the labor movement in America, or have been abused by management collectively and repeatedly, and had Pinkerton detectives (private army) beat you and your fellow workers senseless at the command of management, you can’t understand. And as for the union bosses, no different than management, in fact, management itself, with a bogus tinge of self-righteousness representing the “rank and file” (what b.s.). In the end it’s the same, greed and power on either side, maxed out, leaving the little guy, the worker (factory or office) being unfairly used and abused. In the end, it’s all about fairness and trying to be humane in an inhumane world. The human condition throughout history.

I suggest that the upper echelons of the GOP have been infiltrated by queers.

And as a further, more tenuous *suggestion*, that the homosexuals have kept their place by means nefarious up to and including blackmail.

NO cheers, unfortunately.

How this plays out long term is not going to be pretty (in my humble opinion)...

The degenerate liberals and libertarians (Ron Paul and his cultist dope headed followers) have now joined ranks with the islamo jihadis and their quest to tear down whats left of this nation (or so they think).

The only system that works is a "one culture" society of citizens all working together to achieve peace and prosperity with loyalty to American values. This is no longer possible to achieve by political means and its only a matter of time until the shooting starts. People are fed up to the gills and sick of the liberalism and multiculturalism that is destroying this nation. Time to stop the insanity once and for all. I see a civil war in our near future. Its way past time to swear allegiance to the flag, one nation under God indivisible or go elsewhere and start your own socialist liberal utopia... Because if you libtards think you can turn our country into a nation of Godless unarmed degenerate welfare recipients dependent on the federal government for our existence who are forced worship at the alter of political correctness, abortion and sodomy... think again.. It will never happen.

I think that School Boards and state legislatures are the best way to cut the leftist brainwashing back.

Hire superintendents given clear agenda to root out the propogandists and silence leftist teachers with job loss fear.

Defund the state university departments with the biggest leftist stances and cut off money to these poisonous academics. Get control of the H.R. departments of these education facilities and stop employment of the marxists and perverts.

Control the money and starve the progressives.

Its important for people today to realize the conditions they have at work today are largely due to the union movement of the early 20th century. Hopefully the same movement occurs in places like China and India which will balance the disparity of wages between the countries and eventually bring jobs back to our shores.
(In fact,we should encourage unions in other countries.)

Someone once said that it’s not the Democrat office-holders we should be concerned about, it’s the people who vote for them. (And effing idiots they are.)

IMHO

Are you sure you're not my brother from another mother?

I was talking to my (IMO "overboard") Christian sister not long ago about the state of affairs in our once great Christian nation. I matter of factly stated that in order for things to change "a lot of people must die" (to which she almost fainted).

I agree with you FRiend, we're way past the point of no return.

I’m curious as to where you are at in your life. I am 47, have 3 kids. I see things from a totally different perspective. While the papers make you think that the next generation coming up is full of radicals, I can’t say that I know of any. The next generation coming up behind us has also seen war. They have seen things and have been places that nobody would ever go to because of the oppression. These young men and women for the most part are conservative. They will have a very different perspective on the world.

I was posting only a day or two ago about how some of these policies the regime is putting in place, actually will work against them as it forces the restoration of: The Family.

At first people will cringe at exactly what this author talks about, “The hypocrisy had gone too far. Americans noticed the one-sidedness; they saw “The Agenda” at work.” It is there we have the creation of the vacuum of ideas.

They removed God and we “progressed.” We have now realized the deception. This creates a vacuum. And all science indicates you cannot have a vacuum without something else filling in the emptiness.

To fill in the emptiness will either be evil(chaos) or goodness (family). Charity will be re-learned to be understood it begins at home, not at the hand of the federal government.

You know, I never even mentioned abortion. I kept my rant to the developments since 1989, and the onset of P.C. slavery. You are quite correct. Abortion is gone. It is over. We need to fight somewhere else.

The good news is the women of the country aren’t all that fond of abortion. It is still regarded as shameful. They can have it legal, but they can’t change that.

I didn't misunderstand what Drew said at all, sunshine. I just happen to disagree with it, due to what I've personally observed over many years.

The proof that what Drew said is wrong, is in the numbers. The voters in this country wouldn't be poised to fire congressional Democrats in unprecedented numbers, if we were caving in to the left, as he claims.

The Tea Party wouldn't be driving the direction of politics in this country right now, if we were caving in to the left as he claims.

The new right-media wouldn't be on the ascendancy, and the old left-media on the decline, if we were caving in to the left as he claims.

The first American Revolution wouldn't have ever happened, if there weren't an innate desire to be free, burning in the hearts of all men. The "inalienable rights" expressed by the Framers are timeless, and everlasting. The reasoning put forth by those wise men is as true today, as it was in the 18th century, and people are as motivated now, to unshackle themselves from the yoke of tyranny, as they were when our people first risked everything to win their freedom.

Personally, I don't see how anyone can come to this website and read what's being reported and eloquently expressed here, day after day, and come to the conclusion that all is lost.

Small steps by individuals can lead to large steps in the collective. When people jump on cue to the liberal flute, flailing and gnashing that they are not racist, sexist, homophobes, we should gently point out that they are reacting to psychological conditioning. We then model intellectual thinking and questioning for them.

It starts with us. We have to stand against it, one at a time.

Apparently, we'll also continue to have a certain contingent of honest conservatives who are so beaten and demoralized, that they don't believe that there is any possible way for we Americans to restore our country to its former greatness.

I call them "doomers". No matter what gains or progress we make toward our goal of a restored America, the doomers are always there to remind us that, "It's all in vain. There is no hope."

“It will take generations to undo the damage that the Left has done to this country, just as it took generations to do the damage, but the main tool that the Left used to do it, namely exclusive control of the media, is no more.”

The saddest thing for me as an old man is to see the lack of common sense and thinking skills that has been taught and reinforced by liberal brainwashing from the schools, the movies, and mass media.

We elected Reagan twice over the howling wolves of the news media. We had no talk radio and no internet then, but we as a people could still see and make decisions. Now we no longer can, in spite of these technological innovations. Most people don't know what we are talking about when we mention a story from F.R. It never gets into the wind tunnel to interact with public opinion.

Even with a large electoral win (with Rino candidates) the left controls all levers of power.

I don't mean to be negative, but 1994 did very little for us. It got the wolves off our throats. That is what we want here.

It isn't being a “doomer.” It is simply objectivity. I used to throw my head at the wall every election, living and dying like it was a football game. Now I live my life.

Democrats have used the law, the legal system, education, the media, and Hollywood to build their empire. They have inculcated a system of entitlement where someone now serves a few years in the military and says they are a “veteran”, expecting the same benefits and job preferences of those that fought wars and served twenty years in previous eras. That's the people on our side, not even addressing the true parasites of the Democrats. Entitlement is rampant.

People will vote to trim the edges off other people's government checks, but that is all. Jacques Ellul once wrote of the certainties of political life; that the left is the agent of true power because of the government purse, that the right may only rule as the left allows, and that true federalism can never completely triumph in the age of bureaucracy and arbitrary justice from the ruling class. Federalism and individualism are too frightening to too many people.

Live your life. God bless.
