Politics: Florida Gov. Charlie Crist's ditching of the Republican Party was supposed to liberate him in his run for U.S. Senate. Now he's frantically trying to escape identification with the Democrats' dismal record.
Earlier this month, Crist the political shape shifter told a hall filled with elderly liberal Democrats that he thanked God he was no longer a Republican. But he's obviously also praying that no one will think he's a Democrat.
Last Friday, Crist was asked about his position on ObamaCare by CFLN-TV in Orlando. "I would have voted for it, but I think it can be done better, I really do," he said.
But like Sen. John Kerry in his 2004 presidential campaign, who said of Iraq War funding, "I actually did vote for the $87 billion before I voted against it," Crist speaks from both sides of his mouth.
Crist's campaign issued a statement later in the day contradicting his own remarks. "If I misspoke, I want to be abundantly clear: The health care bill was too big, too expensive and expanded the role of government far too much. Had I been in the United States Senate at the time, I would have voted against the bill because of unacceptable provisions like the cuts to the Medicare Advantage program."
In the span of just hours, Crist actually said "I would have voted for it" and "I would have voted against the bill."

Crist is more than just a RINO; he is a democrat masquerading as an independent.

Enjoy your retirement, Charlie Crist. You are SO OVER after that statement. Nobody who has anything at all good to say about ObamaCare should get anywhere near DC. And he said that in FL, where seniors will get rationed care because the fed dollars will be spread thinner? What an idiot.
Any bad or negetive news about this Crist guy is music to my ears!
He is also masquerading as a heterosexual.
I can almost say that will never happen. If Meek leaves the race for any reason, the blacks will see it as a betrayal. Jennifer Carroll becoming the republican Lt Gov. candidate would make it extremely difficult for the democrats if they appear to just toss Meek aside to favor the orange hued ex-republican.
They are just recovering from the last time they dissed a black politician (1998). For them to appear to do that again would most likely gain the republicans a new voting block in Florida and the dems can’t afford that at all.
In fact, their apparent lack of loyalty to minorities could even help Cubans decide to go ahead and vote for Rubio.
1. I've lived in Miami. Most Miami Cubans don't think of themselves as "minorities," and will proudly tell you about their European ancestry.
2. Do you actually think that there is a chance in hell that a Cuban American former State Senator from Miami will lose the Cuban vote to a moyo
Democrat? You've obviously never spent time in South Florida politics (as I have).
3. The biggest threat is Crist winning Anglos on the west coast and along the I-4 corridor.
“I’m just waiting for Obama or Rahm to make the 4AM call to Meeks and offer him something more lucrative than running for the Senate (D), giving Crist a Meeks base to win a Senate seat.”
After hearing that Crist was in Martha’s Vinyard during Obama’s vacatiion, I’m thinking just the opposite....Crist realizing that he can’t win so he’ll bow out of Sen race and EVENTUALLY (can’t have another Sestak situation) get job with Obama Admin.
imho, most likely, Democrat African Americans will vote for Meek and many white Dems will vote for Crist. Splitting the Dem vote gives Rubio the win....so Obama Admin wants one out...imho, that’s Crist.
As best I could tell from a distance, Crist’s performance as governor was first rate until the last 18 months or so when he began to reposition himself as a friend of the Obama administration. Thinking Obama’s coattails could take him where the people who made him governor couldn’t, he lost the trust of all sides.
If he had remembered who brought him to the dance, this should have been a cake-walk. Excellent example of the consequences of disloyalty and personal hubris.
Yep. Nothing worse than a POS turncoat who has NO core values. If he can disagree with himself within an hour, what good is he to even a democrat?
The meek may inherit the earth, but Meeks will have to get a job. Assuming he stays out of jail.
As far as the Latino vote, many Cubans feel that Latinos in many parts of Florida are on the dole and costing them their hard earned money.
JMHO from a Floridian.

Well at least in the SW part of Florida it's Rubio Country.
Some of the parts of the Panhandle may be in question, but I think Crist associating with Obama over the oil crisis may have turned some of these DEMS and INDP into Rubio’s camp. Let's hope so!
It’s not about whether they think they are minorities or not, it’s about loyalty and trust.
And if you’ve lived in Miami, you know who runs the voting machines.
The dems still run the machines in Miami/Dade, Broward and Palm Beach. So I don’t put anything past them. But I do believe that if they see no loyalty from the dems, the Cubans actually handling the votes may decide not to look the other way when the dems try to pump the votes out the vote machines against republicans.
If Rubio can grab the Puerto Ricans in the Central Florida area (I4), it will do him very well.
I believe Cubans want to vote for Rubio too, but I don’t believe democrats want him to have that vote. The counters determine the win. As long as it is fair, Rubio wins the Cuban vote. If the dems count the way they like, and they run the machines, Rubio may not win the Cuban vote.
Republicans regularly lose to democrats in Miami, Cubans not withstanding.
