Hatch stands up for Park51 (Ground Zero Mosque)
Politico ^ | August 30, 2010 | Maggie Haberman

Posted on 08/30/2010 8:47:44 PM PDT by La Lydia

Breaking ranks with fellow Republicans who have widely criticized President Obama’s First Amendment defense of the proposed Islamic center near ground zero, Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch weighed in Monday:

HATCH: Let’s be honest about it, in the First Amendment, religious freedom, religious expression, that really express matters to the Constitution. So, if the Muslims own that property, that private property, and they want to build a mosque there, they should have the right to do so. The only question is are they being insensitive to those who suffered the loss of loved ones? We know there are Muslims killed on 9/11 too and we know it’s a great religion. … But as far as their right to build that mosque, they have that right.

I just think what’s made this country great is we have religious freedom. That’s not the only thing, but it’s one of the most important things in the Constitution. [...]

There’s a question of whether it’s too close to the 9/11 area, but it’s a few blocks away, it isn’t right there. … And here’s a huge, I think, lack of support throughout the country for Islam to build that mosque there, but that should not make a difference if they decide to do it. I’d be the first to stand up for their rights.

It is not about religious freedom, IT'S ABOUT RESPECT.

It’s a victory mosque to celebrate their 9/11 victory. Only fools think it’s about freedom of religion. Islam is not a religion. It’s a form of government.

The church was there first. Rebuild it first and then we'll talk.

A mosque being built on Ground Zero is like a dog marking its territory.

“Dear Orin,”

Just say no!!!

For the UNknowing, the UNaware and the wary,

When the founding fathers thought of America, their little baby, the last thing they wanted was an invasive force to stifle, smother it, and then overwhelm it and kill it.

Most people do not recognize that what happens in a mosque is sedition. Pure and simple. Islam is not just a “religion”, it is a cult. Larger than that though, it is a political system, it is it’s own government, a economic system (which includes funding new mosque construction), its judicial...all wrapped up in the word sharia. This is inclusive of its military (jihadis) all rolled into one with one intent ...and that is to rule wherever they take root. It is a invasive, systemic infection looking to take over the host once it has quantum.

This is not just a “religion”, but something that cloaks itself in those terms so it should not be given the same treatment contemplated under the first amendment. The Korans Sharia rules are to consume whatever government there is wherever it goes.
Islam is political, and it’s goal is to supplant and replace. Globally.

When the founding fathers thought of America, their little baby, the last thing they wanted was an invasive force to stifle, smother it, and then overwhelm it and kill it.

The sooner America learns this , the better. Some know and many do not, but it is a threat to everything America knows.

Obama? Obama and Company? Should be tried for treason in this issue for promoting the establishment of a foreign government on our soils. He is doing nothing to protect America as per his oath. Also, as a Muslim, he knows this, he know far better, he knows sharia, but is looking to deceive America.

Ahhhh, isn't that a bit like the classic case of the teenager who kills both parents and then begs the judge for mercy, on account of how he's an orphan ...

The Muslims who died on 9/11 do NOT deserve our sympathy.

Only fools think it’s about freedom of religion. Islam is not a religion. It’s a form of government.

A few days ago I saw a woman wearing a black abayah on public transit. Her face was covered as she boarded but she had to uncover her face when she paid her fare to the driver. After she sat down she covered her face again.

This evening in a local store I saw a woman similarly dressed in one of the far checkout lines. She was accompanied by a bearded male in a skullcap. (I guess that was her husband.)

What was funny about this couple was the amount of time they spent in the checkout line. The woman never once uncovered her face. They had two or three store employees waiting on them. When I left with my purchases, they were still there. Bizarre. I wonder what was going on.

Mentioned in another dicussion was “the nutjob priest wanting to hold a Quran burning.”

Did you catch that? Fouling the Quran — inappropriate, fuels anger, and no mention of constitutional right to do so.

Seems odd that liberals defend Islam when it provokes anger or acts inappropriately, but have no problem ridiculing ‘nutjob’ Christians acting within their rights.

If they want to dress like that, they should stay in their own countries.

Tru, but it's impossible to win with that argument. That argument is even more difficult to win than the birth certificate controversy. Certainly, Islam is more violent than any other religion.

If I wrote a book today and proclaimed myself prophet and had a legion of followers that was and my main tenant was to kill any who did not believe in my pronouncements, would building my churches be protected as well?

Surely not.

The only difference btw my hypothetical religion is the time Islam's been in existence and the fact that it is embraced mostly by non-white foreigners.

Our leaders are politically correct cowards, leading America down the path of suicide. And yes, the truth is often harsh.

HATCH: Let’s be honest about it, in the First Amendment, religious freedom, religious expression, that really express matters to the Constitution...leading Muslims agree - are on the record saying - that Islam is more than a religion - it's a set of laws governing how its practitioners or subjects will conduct their lives - as such it can not claim protection under the First Amendment -in fact it should not be able to claim any protection under the Constitution, since many of the laws it requires its adherents to abide by are inconsistent with the Constitution......

Actually, read what he says.

Nearly everyone, from Hannity to Rush to Levin to Beck says that they have the “Right” to build it, but that it is NOT THE RIGHT THING TO DO!

Reverse the situation with a hypothetical. Members of the Ku Klux Klan burn down an all-black mega-church, killing thousands. KKK then buys the property and wants to build an KKK worship and community education center on the site of the church and open it exactly ten years after the burning of the black church.

When asked if the members who burned the church down were racists, he says, “Well, racism is complicated.”

Is there any chance the KKK project would be built?

If there is a ‘right’ (there isn’t) then islam should absolutely be added as an excluded ‘religion’ as an amendment. Close down all mosques, deport all citizens/non who are followers.

Liberals are all about "feelings". Logic has nothing to do with it. They are showing how "understanding" they are while slitting their own throats out of stupidity. They think they can tame the beast by appeasing it.
