PHOENIX – A judge has blocked the most controversial sections of Arizona's new immigration law from taking effect Thursday, handing a major legal victory to opponents of the crackdown.
The law will still take effect Thursday, but without many of the provisions that angered opponents — including sections that required officers to check a person's immigration status while enforcing other laws.

They leave the border open to invite in new "immigrants" so that they can legalize them and thus make them pay into social security, medicare and the various other government ponzi schemes, so that those politically untouchable entitlements can limp along for a few more years before collapsing into a heap of rubble...with all the accompanying political upheaval that will cause. Our government's ponzi schemes require an ever increasing population so that those working can pay for the exploding number of retirees. No one wants to be the party in power when the music stops on the entitlements.

Second WH adviser said ruling “quells the craziness for now” in Ariz but admin still sorting out what it all means b/c of likely appeal, other WH adviser says they are “happy as clams”.
I’d like the Gov to issue hand guns to all people that are legal residents of Arizona.
I don’t get this. Most of the opposition to SB1070 is because of “profiling”.

If you make the Feds start paying for Illegals instead of the States having to School, Educate, Jail and Hospitalize ‘em, the Feds will have a different balance sheet. Right now the Feds get the benifits of Illegals paying into Federal coffers, without much responsibility for the Illegal’s negative actions.

I can see wisdom in this temporary injunction that appeals to a libertarian streak in me.
The government should be restrained as much as possible from interfering with its citizens. If this law has the potential to limit the freedoms of its citizens, then it should only be enforced when it settled by the courts that it doesn’t infringe on the rights of citizens.
It will be appealed. How long do you thin it will take to get it to the SCOTUS? After the Nov. election would be in GOP favor IMO.

I just don’t get this. The judge is basically saying that the Federal Law preempts the state law, but I was under the impression that the state laws could be MORE strict than Federal Law. So if the Federal Law says that it is illegal to be in the country without proper ID, the state law could say the same thing.....
