America's Ruling Class -- And the Perils of Revolution
American Spectator ^ | Angelo M. Codevilla

Posted on 07/16/2010 4:35:54 AM PDT by rellimpank

As over-leveraged investment houses began to fail in September 2008, the leaders of the Republican and Democratic parties, of major corporations, and opinion leaders stretching from the National Review magazine (and the Wall Street Journal) on the right to the Nation magazine on the left, agreed that spending some $700 billion to buy the investors' "toxic assets" was the only alternative to the U.S. economy's "systemic collapse." In this, President George W. Bush and his would-be Republican successor John McCain agreed with the Democratic candidate, Barack Obama. Many, if not most, people around them also agreed upon the eventual commitment of some 10 trillion nonexistent dollars in ways unprecedented in America. They explained neither the difference between the assets' nominal and real values, nor precisely why letting the market find the latter would collapse America. The public objected immediately, by margins of three or four to one.

When this majority discovered that virtually no one in a position of power in either party or with a national voice would take their objections seriously, that decisions about their money were being made in bipartisan backroom deals with interested parties, and that the laws on these matters were being voted by people who had not read them, the term "political class" came into use. Then, after those in power changed their plans from buying toxic assets to buying up equity in banks and major industries but refused to explain why, when they reasserted their right to decide ad hoc on these and so many other matters, supposing them to be beyond the general public's understanding, the American people started referring to those in and around government as the "ruling class."

"Illegal as defined by our over lords."

We have inalienable rights which were finally defined by our unique founding documents. Those are God-given or natural rights that can't be granted or taken away from us by a government.

After slavery was finally abolished with a lot of blood spilled, those rights are now complete. Only MEN can try to take away our God-given rights. The war is against those people.

In law school, the 2nd Amendment is taught before the 1st Amendment for a reason.

This might have been something that you said yesterday, I was reading it somewhere here. Anyway, about how we get it that McCommie hates JD, now tell us his plan? It was a very good point.

And if McCommie had been running ONE AD against BO, 24-7 the way he’s doing against JD, just ONE AD about the truth about BO, fewer people would have been duped into voting for Dear Leader!

Arghhh, my blood pressure!!

” How about Bush pushing home loans for totally unqualified minorities several years before the housing market imploded....

Here’s his “Home loans for unqualified minorities” speech.

Thanks. I remember it like it was yesterday!

” His run against Hayworth is so different from his run against Obama, that you wouldn’t be too shocked to discover that McCain really is two different people, like in the classic “Man in the Iron Mask.” “

Good comparison.

There are about 300 people in Congress who need to be OUT OF WORK.

Only about about 60/70 of them will be. :(:(:(:(

A perverse aspect of our country is that the welfare class, the ‘professional poor’ are also running this country through their voting in politicians who promise to keep the perks going and to keep getting more and more and more.

The people slaving away aren’t the poor, but the middle class. So, it is likely that for the first time in history, the violent revolution and overthrow of the government will come from the middle class, not those classified as the underclass.

How about instead of calling them a$$$holes we start to refer to all GOP Statist sellouts as a¢¢holes.

It is to indicate how cheaply they've sold their honor, to say nothing of their souls.

It still isn't a replacement for RINO, and of course it's too coarse for every day use even in print, but I like this variation on the adjective-expletive for its implication that what most people will still call RINOs are lower than a 2 bit whore.

BTW, alt 155 produces a ¢ sign.

Thanks! You don't know how many “Bush tried to warn us of the housing crisis and CRA” threads that I posted those videos of GWB promoting loans to poor minorities with bad credit for affordable home buying. Calcowgirl found me a whole set of government press releases with Bush taking credit for homeowners with bad credit buying houses they couldnt afford that I used many times.

Obviously democrats always had progressive homeowner goals but what many Republicans cant admit is that Bush and other progressive wRepublicans in office furthered the same goals (and how many minorities voted Republican in 2006 and 2008 for this?) They hate when you counter their myths with facts.

Even the rebels/patriots had been supporters of the crown not much earlier. Supposedly, George Washington was toasting King George at dinner in 1775.

Don’t forget that if you are critical of Bush even after he leaves office, then you are helping Obama.

Ever see the German Movie Downfall?? It is a classic. If you were critical of the Leader, you were helping the enemy. You might hate the Russians but if you were critical of the leader for anything, you would be shot as if you were a Russian.

The solution is to arrest all illegals, heavily fine those who hire them

Seize their assets and criminally prosecute them.

The thousands of these unscrupulous, corrupt employers that hire millions of illegals, while counting their profits on the backs of tax payers, will eventually become a plague that people will want to beat into the ground.

That’s me...that’s how I write...with the “dirt” and all.

My contempt for these people doesn’t let me do it any other way...

Everybody’s rebel is someone else’s Patriot.

It’s easy to support “the crown” or the “gov” or whatever when it’s boot isn’t on your neck; as long as it’s on somebody else’s neck, its OK, because hey, they MUST have done SOMETHING to deserve it.

But what people fail to realize is that ultimately, that boot WILL get around to your neck.

Then you have an option:

1. Politely ask the wearer of the boot to remove it and hope he complies.
2. DEMAND he remove it, and act surprised when pushes harder because he has Z-E-R-O respect for your rights.
3. Cause SERIOUS PAIN to his life to MAKE him remove it, and to the lives of all those they send to put the boot back in place, until they STOP sending them.

Those are the options the Patriots, our ancestors, faced.

When one of us has our liberties threatened, we ALL are threatened. Its the way this sh*t works.

As for Washington toasting the King, well, maybe, it could have happened. But at the end of the day when it got down to where the cheese binds, they MADE him remove the boot.
