Ex-con James Traficant doesn’t make ballot in Congress comeback bid

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — Former Ohio Rep. James Traficant has been disqualified in his bid to return to Congress after seven years in prison.

Political adviser Linda Kovachik says elections officials in Trumbull County ruled Tuesday that Traficant was short of the number of petition signatures required to get on the fall ballot.

She says Traficant plans to appeal. Elections board officials did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

Traficant was hoping to run as an independent in his Youngstown-area home turf against Democratic Rep. Tim Ryan.

Traficant represented the region in Congress as a Democrat for nearly two decades. He left federal prison in September after serving time for corruption.

It’s amazing, but I understand he uses an actual live opossum for his toupee.

As I recall he was fond of bathroom humor while speaking on the floor of The House. While this might amuse the white trash segment of voters I always felt it showed no dignity.

I would have liked to see him return to Congress.

He was set up by the Democrat Party when he became a rogue; and they prosecuted him for LESS ethical violations than nearly ALL Democrats in Congress today....if he were more LOYAL to the Party, he would have never been indicted.

He's a kook, but he's no more un-ethical than ANY of them.

I vastly prefer Jimbo to Ryan. Jimbo is/was a loose cannon, which was good. You’re not gonna get a Republican in that district. Slid union.

Ted Kennedy, on the other hand, was always the epitome of dignity.

Call me crazy but this guy gets it...he has a Sunday radio show on and has always, and still does, rail against the out of control spending. His would have been potential opponent is a groomed socialist....Traficant any day in that district...

Voters in that Congressional District should write-in James Traficant, anyways, if they really want him back!

Good!! He used to be a good conservative vote, but he has become an idiotic anti-Semite.

I listened to Tranficant on Hannity not long after he was released from prison, and it seems that while incarcerated, he read some way out conspiratorial material that claimed Israel controls America and is the source of our major problems. I was stunned by the things he said.
