On Wednesday at 10:40 p.m. law enforcement officers from several agencies were working a detail in the area of Highway 84 and White and Parker Road in Stanfield. A white SUV pulled off of the roadway near where officers from the Gila River Police Department were working.
Using night vision goggles from a distance, the officers observed two individuals in the vehicle appearing to have consensual sexual intercourse. Prior to the officers making contact, the male and female got out of the vehicle and began to argue.
The officers later learned that the male subject was only 14 years old, and the female was identified as 26-year-old Andrea Martinez, a schoolteacher with the Stanfield Elementary School District and a former teacher of the victim.
Both individuals admitted to having sexual intercourse with each other prior to being contacted by officers. Additionally, the victim reported that he had sexual intercourse last month with Ms. Martinez.
Martinez was arrested by Pinal County sheriff's detectives and will be booked this afternoon into the Pinal County Adult Detention Facility.
Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu stated, "It is very upsetting that an adult would take advantage of a child, especially when the adult is placed in a position of trust such as Ms. Martinez. I am very thankful that PCSO detectives and the officers from the Gila River Police Department worked quickly together to put Ms. Martinez behind bars."
The Stanfield Elementary School District was notified of the arrest and is cooperating fully with the investigation.
That was my first thought.
Clearly this is what the taxpayers that bought the officers the night vision had in mind. Sneaky Peeky on Lovers Lane.
ROFL!
No, because apparently at least a segment of the male population never gets past the age of 14. I personally would like to see photos of the guys who play that game. That might be honestly enlightening. :)
The thing that bothers me about these the most is that parents have the right to expect teachers to protect their kids, not engage in this sort of behavior with them. I was a teacher and I felt that I was to be a role model. Not their friend, not their sexual partner, etc. This is clearly a person in a position of authority abusing that authority, regardless of the sex of either party. It’s why a boss should not solicit sex from an employee (altho it happens).
I agree with you. Play the guilty/not guilty game on other things, but not child abuse.
Pretty high opinion of yourself I’d say. I think we need some proof.
You are misinformed and perpetuating a stereotype that it is ok for a woman to sexualize a young boy and interfere with his custody by his parents before he has chosen his educational path or fully formed his moral conduct. It is a theft of innocence for the boy and his entire family, as well as from his future wife and children, the same as for a girl.
Male Victims of Sexual Abuse
"Male victims of sexual abuse constitute an extremely under-identified, under-served and frequently misunderstood population. Prevalence rates for males ranged from 3% - 29% (as cited in Barnett et al., 1997, p. 761). Though sexual abuse is under-reported by both males and females, males are in a unique position. They are far less likely to disclose sexual abuse due to...."
;^)
... and "What a facinating alternative interpretation of what was actually posted," I'd chirp, in sassy turn. Thankfully, however, the only individual's interpretations for which I rightfully assume responsibility are my own, n'estce pas?
I think we need some proof.
Sorry. I don't "hook up" with strangers over the internet. (I'm sure you must be very nice, though.) ;)
I really don’t understand the attraction to these young boys myself, of course, I didn’t start teaching until I was in my forties, so I had kids older than the ones I was teaching, so it would have had a BIG ick factor to me anyway.
I think a LOT of it is fairly young women who can’t let go of their own teen years, and this tendency for kids not to grow up, an overly sexualized society (hey, even conservative FReepers, take a look at these threads) a desire to be friends with the kids, etc.
Or maybe something else I’m missing. I know there were teachers who were what I would have called overly friendly with their students, altho only none of them I suspected of having a sexual relationship with students. I thought it was bad enough for the ones who acted like the kids friends because I think there should be that line of authority. My students liked me, I was fairly popular. But if you are their friend, things go the heck when you give them a bad grade or do something else they deem *unfriendly*. BTW many of my former students are now my *friends* on Facebook, which is fine. They are now adults with young families and it’s fun to watch them all grown up.
Like anyone is fooled. You are as transparent as Obama, I would say. :)
I’ve got to say, Letourneau did prove that it was for love. They’ve been together for fourteen years now. Not that it is hard when you start with someone in 6TH GRADE.
"What" and "ever," hon. In that order. ;)
> Should we be more worried about what two people are doing in the dark, or two cops doggedly determined to find out what that might be?
WTF?
The perverts put in positions of ultimate trust, preying on our children, thats who.
you wouldnt have a word to say if it was an older male screwing a 14 year old girl.
The police did their job & they did it right!
You are quite the wordsmith. :)
I suspect many of those who take this lightly would have a different perspective it if was their kid.
I commend you on your obvious perspicacity." ;)
Ya know, you are spot on. Thinking back on my teachers, my 5th grade teacher was just like you. She was the best ever.
Not only was she a good teacher, she was also a good protector. She watched out for us kids. Gosh, that was more that 50 years ago.
Sadly, I think the libs have taken control of our school systems and as a result, push their PC ideology and the ‘hate-America’ theme.....
Just my thoughts.
Oh yeah, please don't take offense, I mean, after all, I am a male: NOT guilty.
