The Next Civil War
The Gainesville Sun ^ | June 19, 2010 | LTC William Dixon, M.D.

Posted on 06/23/2010 8:20:39 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

In 1861 America fought a civil war over slavery, States’ rights and economic differences between North and South. The opening shots of a second civil war were fired one hundred years later.

War began on college campuses with rebellion against academic and civil authorities. Hostages were taken, buildings occupied. There were riots and bombings. Students and police were killed and wounded. Anarchists joined civil rights activists and so-called “peace” activists in violent anti-war, anti-capitalism riots. In common was the attack on society and the Constitution in favor of an ill-defined “just” society to be created. Civil society suppressed the foul-mouthed radical students, the anarchists and the leftists but did not defeat them.

Student leaders ducked out of public sight, moved into academia, the unions, environmentalism and charitable foundations for support. There they prospered and wove virulent anti-capitalist, anti-American political philosophies into the fabric of these organizations. They gave up violence in favor of foisting their theories of social and economic “justice” on our brightest students, on our teachers and on politicians. These radicals worked quietly behind the scenes to gain control of the media, Hollywood, the schools and colleges and the Democrat Party.

Today, a majority of CEOs of big corporations and Wall Street financial institutions (Warren Buffett, Steve Jobs of Apple, Bill Gates and the leadership of Goldman-Sachs for example!) support the Progressive agenda. The election of Obama brought these radicals back into power.

The battle lines of this new war for the future of America are now drawn. On the left, leaders of the Progressive movement are wealthy, highly educated, extremely intelligent and masterful in their use of language to advance their issues. They are guided by the belief that a group of selfless, brilliant leaders using reason and logic can perfect humanity, eliminate injustice and famine and save the earth from mankind. They are ruthless in their belief that desired ends justify any means of attaining them. They believe the Constitution is outdated and flawed, needing of change. They favor more government regulation, taxation and litigation to achieve their Utopian goals.

Opposing the political left are traditionalists who believe in the relevance of the Constitution, the enduring wisdom of the Founders, smaller government, individual freedoms and individual responsibilities. Fewer, by way of comparison, are wealthy and have degrees from Ivy League colleges. But many have wisdom gleaned from dealing with realities rather than social theories. They don’t believe that any group of leaders, selfless or otherwise, is capable of making decisions wiser than citizens would make for themselves.

Most of the Progressive leaders have shunned military service considering it best suited to those of lesser intellect. They oppose strong national defense in favor of diplomacy. They disdain patriotic displays as nationalistic and misguided. They count themselves equally American and citizens of the world. Many opposing progressives are veterans proud of military service. Most are flag-waving patriots, nationalists and believers in American exceptionalism. Many own guns and willingly defend their families and their Constitutional freedoms. Most don’t believe that achieving political ends can ever justify a wrong.

The outcome of this new civil war is in doubt. If the left prevails, America will become a social welfare democracy, following the pattern of failing European states. If traditionalists prevail, America may return to the constitutional principles which it made it the most prosperous and free nation in history. The current balance of power favors the progressive left. But, history and an understanding of economics favors the traditionalists. The rising Tea Party movement suggests the balance of power may be shifting.

” “War” didn't just “begin”. To be fair, you'd have to admit the “rebellion” then was in part a response to an escalation of forced conscriptions to fight an undeclared war by Democratic administrations in the 60’s (following the Tongkin Gulf incident).” ( research99)

Yes, indeed! Many who marched in these protests were not socialists ( Marxists).

This Cold Civil that we are fighting began long before the 60s. The Marxists have been infiltrating our institutions since the turn of the last century. If we are to win conservatives must do three things simultaneously:

1) Massive spiritual revival.

2) We must remove our nation's children from the influence of the Marxists. This means getting the nation's children into conservative private schools that weave Judeo Christian values and our nation's founding principles into every minute of their day.We must work to shut down government schooling.

3) Work to shut down government schools. Simply by attending children learn to be socialists. They learn the minute they walk through the door that government has enormous power to take money from their neighbor to pay for a service their parents want for tuition-free.

Indeed. Book smart is not the same as street smart...and I’ll take streetsmart’s chances on survival any day.

And those progressives, who think that the traditionalists are a bunch of knuckledraggers...well, let them keep misunderestimating.

Busting and crushing the unions is the first step. They, along with the likes of George Soros, fund liberal progressivism.

It’s funny. I was thinking the same thing while walking my dog the other day. These Progressive Lefties may have PhDs in “Thinkology” but nothing in the way of common sense.

They are not intellectuals and I am not sure that (pseudo intellectual fits). Do not mistake “Glibness” for genius, with all their education (no matter what school)all we have done is create a class that has a large vocabulary by which to say very stupid things.

We must take back our schools and media.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Government schools must be abolished. They can't be reformed. Government schools are socialism!

Simply by attending children learn that government has enormous police power to take money from a neighbor to provide a service that their parents want tuition-free. Well!...If government can use police threat to provide tuition free schooling, why not a thousand other wants and needs?

Within one to three generations of modern government schooling our great-granparents, grandparents, and parents thought the following socialist/Marxists programs were just wonderful: ( some of these socialist/Marxist programs are now nearing their 100th anniversary!)

**the IRS
** the federal reserve
** Woodrow Wilson
** usurpation of large tracts of land ( without compensation) for federal parks.
** feminism
** unions
** the failed “One World” League of Nations
** FDR's New Deal
** the abominable U.N.
** Johnson's Great Society
** more than 800% inflation of the dollar
** abolishment of the gold standard.

Solution: Conservatives must work for privatization of universal K-12 education. We must work for the complete shut down of the government K-12 schools, We must work for complete separation of school and state.

Perhaps, but that would require leadership. That type of leadership does not come from elected officials, do you see anyone stepping up?

“Like the Scarecrow, Progressives believe that intelligence is imparted by way of a diploma.”

___________________________________________________________

Liberals also believe that education is the replacement of morality. For example, if the issue of child or teen sex comes up, the libs decry that the kids need to be “educated” and need education on this subject. Morality is what is needed, NOT education. Morality is something that no diploma can grant.

I like that he uses the term “Traditionalist” instead of “conservative”. At this point, we need radical traditionalists, because the country has moved so far away from its roots.

I spent four months in Biloxi in 1983, taking a computer programming course at Keesler AFB. While I was there, I visited Jefferson Davis’ home in Pass Christian. Is it true that it was destroyed by Katrina?

“Ex military personnel were such worthless drunkard layabouts they were good only for the lower rungs of the union ladders or not at all.”

Holy crap! Your rhetoric is simply, astoundingly overblown. I was a child of the military through the 1960’s and 1970’s and then a military man in the 1980’s and 1990’s. Yes, there were some scum in the military, and there still are. The much larger majority of those in the service at that time were hard-working, honest and good. I knew MANY military men from that era upon who’s ass you would be but a pimple. Just wow. You should be ashamed of your slander.

There are two main roadblocks to the progressives socialist utopia: The Second amendment and this...

Most of the Progressive leaders have shunned military service..

are problems the progressives cannot overcome.

To be fair, you'd have to admit the "rebellion" then was in part a response to an escalation of forced conscriptions to fight an undeclared war by Democratic administrations in the 60's (following the Tongkin Gulf incident).

You'd almost think it was totally scripted. Socialists in DC pretending to fight socialists in Asia, imposing the concomitant sacrifice onto the upcoming generation, who react by 1) rejecting the imposition and becoming radical socialists themselves, or 2) accepting the sacrifice and getting shot up and demoralized, thereby becoming less effective opponents of socialism.

I agree. I remember when I went to school. We didn’t even have indoor plumbing and this was in the late 50s and 60s. We brought our water in from a well and all the kids had a job. We learned how to get along with people on the playground. We brought our lunch from home. There were no drink or snack machines. They actually taught us reading, writing, arithmetic and history. We didn’t have any classes on self esteem or any of that rot. Back then to us gay meant happy. We didn’t even know what political correctness was. It was wonderful. Even sitting on a wooden toilet seat in midwinter in Minnesota was wonderful compared to all the fancy trappings they have in schools now. But we actually learned. We also learned common sense. And no one ever got offended over anything. The parents were involved and if you got in trouble at school, you got in even more trouble when you got home.
