The top commander in Afghanistan, Gen. Stanley McChrystal, has been summoned to the White House to explain biting and unflattering remarks he made to a freelance writer about President Barack Obama and others in the Obama administration.
The face-to-face comes as pundits are already calling for McChrystal to resign for insubordination.

“Why did he vote for Barry?”
You assume he tells the truth.
The guy is special ops. It’s all about misdirection.
lol, well that explains it!
Our “gay” military is taking care of that.
Don’t sweat it.
If this guy had any interest in "duty" he wouldn't have been conducting this kind of interview with a reporter from Rolling Stone magazine. This sounds like bad scene from an "Apocalypse Now" parody.
Good point. Wasn’t it, like, 4 months after he was appointed as commander in afghanistan that he finally got a face to face with “commander zero” and that was the 10 min. photo op?
“So you are saying McChrystal is lying?”
I’m saying I didn’t see him do it.
“There is NO REASON for him to lie about voting for Obama.”
Sure there is. To give the perception of impartiality.
“Are you suggesting Gen. Stanley McChrystal is a shameless pathological liar with brown stuff on his nose?”
No. I am saying he is smart and planned out Obama and the press’s reaction.
The White House forgot to forward the new DU rules to McChrystal.
Substitute the name Bush for Obama and he'd be painted a national hero by the MSM..
Nitely news is all theatrics.. entertainment.. news readers are all actors.. nitely drama or comedy.. to say it serves any other purpose is delusionary..
Murrow and Cronkite spun the news ALWAYS... Jerry Rivers does the same, no difference.. The Harpy Couric is no different than the Harpy Helen Thomas.. or Arrianna or Jeanne Garafflo..
Because he got what he wanted so he doesn't mind losing a little face now. He got some sharp points made and he got some face time with Obama.
The point was made so sharply that Obama won't give him just a photo op this time...theu'll have a real sit-down which is likely what McCrystal was after. The WH will take him more seriously from this point on. If McCrystal doesn't get some of the stuff he's after (one of the them likely being a walking-back on the July withdrawal deadline) I wouldn't be suprised if he put his resignation on the table.
LOL “Misdirection” = lie
Plus, what I don’t get is why the heck any of these top brass guys allow the press open access to themselves and staff. I think there is a lot of basis for saying “poor judgement”.
“Dissent is patriotic”. Remember Pelosi saying that?
You are not expected to see him do it...we have his word.
Stan, you ought to KNOW better than tell the TRUTH about The One!! I mean, just because his “rules of engagement” are getting troops killed in Afghanistan because no one is actually permitted to FIGHT, doesn’t mean you have the right to get ANNOYED!! Just watch all your soldiers die, have the blame placed on YOU and TAKE IT!!!
And by the way, the Free Republic site is still INCREDIBLY slow when it comes to clicking on an article or making a comment. After the Sunday melt down, things are not a heck of a lot better. I hope the problems are resolved soon.
If I recall correctly Obama has called for a withdraw by July 2011. That is less than 13 months from now. McCrystal was the one who came up with the surge strategy for afghansitan similar to the one he planned in Iraq. If I am not mistaken the 101st which is a part of the stratgy has not even deployed yet.
Obama has change the ROE.
Oh, yes things are getting dire, as the death rate for this month has indicated.
As a side note things seem to be getting bad in Iraq again too.
Why did McChrystal vote for him. Another fatal mistake from a good American.
