The top commander in Afghanistan, Gen. Stanley McChrystal, has been summoned to the White House to explain biting and unflattering remarks he made to a freelance writer about President Barack Obama and others in the Obama administration.

The face-to-face comes as pundits are already calling for McChrystal to resign for insubordination.

He isn’t very slick if he doesn’t realize that he can’t trust the liberal press.

Everyone in the Military feels the same way about the White House, but not everyone is getting it printed in a news story.

If you won’t let me kill the enemy why did you pick me to command?

You guys all make a good point- if he resigned first would we be talking about it? Maybe- maybe not. But then why apologize?

Still- the example this sets for the enlisted man and the officer corps is very poor. The civilian world does not operate the same way as the military- what he’s done is a serious violation. It’s about a principle- and a RULE, regardless of the personalities involved.

Retired and speaking up like this wouldn’t be news at all...it would have been buried and written off as sour grapes, IMHO.

Your IMHO hit the target dead-center.

McChrystal doesn’t look too bright in this whole deal...why would he make the statements he did then turn around and fall all over himself appologizing??

I have to wonder about his judgement; he admits voting for Barry which tells me he really doesn’t understand what is going on.

That makes it even worse. Anyone who didn’t vote for Obama but now (in 2010) claims he did vote for him is a moron and clearly has no sense of shame. I would claim I had relations with farm animals before I ever told anyone I voted for Obama . . . even if I HAD voted for him.

THe idiot is, drum roll ...

Gen. Stanley McChrystal !

If he truly gave a crap about his country, our country, he would NOT apologize and resign on that stance.

"...MacAuthor met Truman half way for his butt chewing over Korea..."

Probably no place between D.C. and Afghanistan had a suitable supply of ice cream/snow cones available-along with a worthy golf course-that could induce the Chump in Chief to go deliver McChrystal's azz-chewing.

Obama wants to have his Truman moment and prove he’s “in command” to wipe out that BP oil stain. This is all about firming up his far left loony base for the mid terms.

BTW I think the General will get to keep his job if he still wants it. It’s in Obama’s interest to appear in command, not to appear out of control.

It is interesting to note that around the same time Obama says “the time line stands”, His general is dissing him. I think McChrystal is daring Obama to fire him. He sees Obama as a military idiot trying to set him up. This is his way of throwing a political hand-grenade on the way out. Not very becoming, but make someone angry enough.....

Here's more:

...General Shinseki was effectively vindicated, and military officials, as well as activists and politicians, publicly saluted him.

I’m with you...it drives me nutz that whenever anyone actually says what he, (seldom she) believes, they spend the next week running around appologizing. McChystal dissapoints.

Don’t think I see any disagreement...you are right. I think he wanted to make sure it got dragged out...Ali being banged into the ropes for several rounds made him look weak too...until the rope a dope strategy unfolded. I think this is going to be covered in a way that NEVER would have happened otherwise. I also think that the theory of discipline and chain of command is important, but this is not a real blow to that policy...IMHO...the troops will see it for what it is.

“In that article McChrystal acknowledged that he voted for Obama, so he’s no patriot.”

So he says. No one will ever know. I personally doubt it.

Count the number of times you heard callers on CSPAN say “I used to be a Bush supporter, but . . . “

Gives credibility and non-partisan street creditials.

There is NO REASON for him to lie about voting for Obama.

Are you suggesting Gen. Stanley McChrystal is a shameless pathological liar with brown stuff on his nose? I wouldn't say that about him. I question his judgment of people and his ability to make known his views in a more tactful way. He strikes me as a thin skinned liberal that finally saw the truth and got caught. No, I have no use for people like that.

If he was a patriot, he should refuse to apologize for the truth and then resign. THAT would have been a statement. Now he's another arse ***** with his tail between his legs.

Don't see things as you would LIKE them to be. See and understand things for how they ARE.

"McChrystal knew what he was doing. "

Does not look like it to me. In fact, I find it pathetic that he now extends a profound apology. Either don't do it or stick to your guns. This was more like a dog barking from behind a wall. Don't forget also that he had voted for Obama and said today that he has "admiration" for him. That did not have to be a part of apology, certainly if he wanted to "out" Obama as you suggest.

Looks more like a cheep hot-shot behavior of a general who acted like a tsar in his neck of the woods, thinking himself superior to everyone in sight, and simply forgot his limits. Now that he was reminded of what he actually is, he begs forgiveness.
