A 15-year-old Liberian refugee who pleaded guilty to participating in the gang rape of an 8-year-old girl was sentenced to probation.
Maricopa County Juvenile Court Judge Samuel Thumma Wednesday also sent the boy to a secure treatment center for at least a year for last summer's assault in Phoenix.
He was originally charged as an adult but later sent to juvenile court where he pleaded guilty to sexual assault, kidnapping, three counts of sexual conduct with a minor and one count of attempted sexual conduct with a minor.
Unless a judge rules otherwise, he will remain on probation until he is 18. If he had been convicted in adult court, he could have been sentences up to 21 years in prison.
The case prompted an international outcry after police reported the girl's father said she brought shame on the family and he didn't want her back

The article left out the fact that a determination as to whether he will be designated as a sex offender will not be made until after he completes his rehabilitation program!
The largest Liberian community in the United States is on the north shore of Staten Island in New York City. They are for the most part, a law abiding but insular group of people. The folks in SI, however, are mostly Amero-Liberians (ie the descendants of slaves from the US who migrated there in the early 19th century), and have English names.
That’s just insane.
Unless he has become a citizen, the law requires that he be deported when his sentence is up. Even foreigners here legally are subject to deportation if they commit a felony.

Seeing as how the victim was the daughter of a man with the mental outlook of a predatory wild boar, I think it’s reasoned (and beyond reproach) to state that this fifteen year old deserves to spend at least a decade behind bars.
As for this poor girl, please, someone, anyone, get this girl out of that house if she hasn’t been removed prior to this.
And keep her out of there. There may be some hope for her, if you do.
I’m tempted to make a sarcastic remark about celebrating diversity, but this case is too sad and too disgusting. I hope that poor girl finds a good home because she’ll need tharapy for years to cope with all this.

“brought shame on the family” odd this is a muslum belief. Were these animals muslum immigrants. The girl will be lucky not to be killed by her family.
100 years ago they would of strung this little pickerwood up.
This story makes me sick. That poor, poor child.
