ORLANDO, Fla. -- Job hunters are facing a new trend: businesses asking recruitment companies to keep unemployed people out of their job pools.
Peter May, of Atlanta, said he was hoping Orlando-based recruiter "The People Place" would help him find a job with Sony Ericsson. The company is moving its headquarters to Buckhead, which is located outside Atlanta.
May said he was mortified when he read the message on the website. In all caps, and bold type, it said, "No unemployed candidates will be considered at all."

“a new trend”
One example is not a trend.
It might make your story sound sexier, but it is a lie.
Their theory must be - they want good people, good people have jobs already?
Its only unusual because they are admitting it. Its always been harder to get a job if you aren’t working. Its especially true if you’ve been unemployed for a long time.
As I listened to the video report, they are reporting this request as a trend, due to employers asking recruiters making this a qualification.
At least I think that’s what they’re getting at. The video ends at an awkward place, leaving the viewer hoping for more.

Thanks, lady.
Good thinking for posting that in this thread!
You’re welcome Daisy.
Say hello to your new foreign masters. Sony-Erickson is a bunch of foreigners. So is BP for that matter and they are sending our coasts and our people there into ruination.
When a country weakens itself the outsiders come in for the kill. I know I’m being dramatic but I speak the truth. Say someone is a veteran of our military, is unemployed, and applies to Sony-Erikson. Are you dumb enough to think they care?
I may begin by throwing out all without a college degree (even if the job doesn't require one), I then may decide I want someone with current qualifications, and if someone hasn't worked for a year or two, they probably aren't as current as someone with a job doing the same thing every day.
After weeding out a huge chunk, I can then proceed to look at each individually and make my decision. I just don't have the time, or frankly, the need to process each and every one of the 500 resumes I received.
You can save time by randomly dividing the stack into two piles then toss one into the trash. That will weed out the unlucky ones.

______________
Very true. What is particularly awkward is that the unemployed spike is concurrent with increased productivity.
Difficult for those who are competent, but between jobs.
Job-scared people working harder, combined with reductions in force leads to improved productivity stats. “Making do with less” doesn’t sound quite so positive.

I got one from a guy who bitched about every one of his listed former employers.
Wanted to be a manager.
This is all fine a good, in a normal economy.
But this is anything but a normal economy.
And all things have consequences.
And the magnitude of unintended consequences this country is facing with so many unemployed and underemployed is growing with each new pink slip.
I’ve been saying it for a while now, the real problem in this country is going to start when 10% to 20% of the population is unemployed and benefits have finally run out. Add in the underemployed who can no longer provide for themselves and family working 20 hrs part time at minimum wage.
They’ll see stories like this and it only fuels the hate, rage and resentment they already hold for the world, right or wrong. And at some point when they feel they are cornered with no other options and are starving, living on the street... they will lash out.
I firmly believe that we a re just one missed welfare check away from all out anarchy in this country.
This is the kind of action that can swing back on its creators as a vicious, two-edged sword.
Oh, the sweet justice of the authors of this policy finding themselves out of work and becoming the deserving victims of their own callousness.
Here, near Nashville, a massive flood has caused some businesses to fold, throwing many out of work.
Are these victims worthless human beings never to be considered for other jobs?
Such ruthlessness sows the seeds of civil unrest and insurrection.
Is America to become a nation of anarchy...hopelessness and bitterness where the unemployed sack the homes of those working because the unemployed are treated like lepers and offered no hope?
People will feed themselves and their families...one way or the other.. or die trying.
America has some very dark days ahead...
