Exactly. If I have one job openening, and receive 500 resumes, I need a way to weed them out.

I may begin by throwing out all without a college degree (even if the job doesn't require one), I then may decide I want someone with current qualifications, and if someone hasn't worked for a year or two, they probably aren't as current as someone with a job doing the same thing every day.

After weeding out a huge chunk, I can then proceed to look at each individually and make my decision. I just don't have the time, or frankly, the need to process each and every one of the 500 resumes I received.

You can save time by randomly dividing the stack into two piles then toss one into the trash. That will weed out the unlucky ones.

I got one from a guy who bitched about every one of his listed former employers.

Wanted to be a manager.

This is all fine a good, in a normal economy.

But this is anything but a normal economy.

And all things have consequences.

And the magnitude of unintended consequences this country is facing with so many unemployed and underemployed is growing with each new pink slip.

I’ve been saying it for a while now, the real problem in this country is going to start when 10% to 20% of the population is unemployed and benefits have finally run out. Add in the underemployed who can no longer provide for themselves and family working 20 hrs part time at minimum wage.

They’ll see stories like this and it only fuels the hate, rage and resentment they already hold for the world, right or wrong. And at some point when they feel they are cornered with no other options and are starving, living on the street... they will lash out.

I firmly believe that we a re just one missed welfare check away from all out anarchy in this country.

Helped my GF do that a couple of years go sitting on the couch drinking beer one night. Took an hour to weed the stack down to three resumes.

I was a BOFH and then a SysAdmin at an institution of "higher learning" for 30-plus years. I'd be more likely to throw out the ones with a degree. But that's just my prejudice speaking.
