“This was not a humanitarian sail, but a violent provocation directed against us,” said Israel Defense Forces Spokesperson Avi Benayahu. “We were attacked with clubs and long knives.””
SNIPPET: “Benyahu confirmed that the activists snatched one of the fighters’ weapons. “He was attacked by the crowd and they opened fire. During the incident, our fighters were in real danger, both from the clubs and from the weapons. They used crowd dispersal means, and when there was no choice – live ammunition. IDF Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi said at a press conference following the deadly takeover of a Gaza aid flotilla: “There is no connection between what occurred on the ship and peace efforts and humanitarian aid. Our forces were met with extreme violence from cold weapons, and in once instance, from firearms that were snatched from our fighters.”
He added, “The soldiers acted appropriately. Some of them were injured from gunshots and others from stabbings and blows.” He said. (Ynet)
