PORTAGE -- Two college students heading to Salt Lake City were hurt when a gun discharged inside their vehicle near the Utah-Idaho border.
Four male students from Brigham Young University-Idaho were traveling south on Interstate 15 to attend the LDS General Conference in Salt Lake City, authorities say.
Around noon, in the front passenger seat, a man identified as Sterling Glines, 24, of Arizona, was examining his .40-caliber Glock.
The vehicle had just crossed the border into Utah, and Glines reportedly was explaining how the gun wouldn't fire if the slide was pushed back when the weapon discharged a single shot.
The bullet went through Glines' left hand and hit the forearm of the driver, identified as Ben Baugh, 23, of American Fork. The bullet also struck the driver's side door just below the window.
One of the men called 911.
Glines and Baugh were taken to Bear River Valley Hospital in Tremonton. The injuries aren't believed to be life-threatening, said Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Lee Perry.
Authorities say Glines has a concealed weapons permit issued by Arizona. The other two men in the car, a 21-year-old man from Pocatello, Idaho, and a 23-year-old man from Tooele, were not hurt.
UHP is investigating.
It will if you pull the trigger
Hold my beer while I demonstrate science to yunz.
Glocks. For some reason people accidentally hurt themselves with these all the time - including people who should know better:

Hold ma’ beer.
Was anyone holding his beer? I wouldn’t want to see a good beer wasted.
Dumb duh dum dumb.
Idiots.
I know I was always packin’ when headed to a church conference.
You have to be just about the dumbest person ever to live if you shoot yourself while cleaning your gun.
“examining” = playing with
If people were to follow these NRA safety rules they would eliminate "accidents":
Always keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot
Always keep the gun unloaded until ready to use
Out of battery?
That answered the question.
I treat every firearm as if it were a Glock, including my 3 Glocks.
That’s how I’ve always looked at it. It’s sooooo easy to make sure the pistol is empty. It ain’t hard. Remove the magazine, check the pipe, and never pull the trigger AND NEVER POINT THE GUN AT YOURSELF OR ANYONE ELSE. It just isn’t that hard.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
That there general conference must have been as dangerous as it was in Briggy Youngs day...
a guy has to carry a gun to protect himself from the “avenging angels” checking temple recommends at the door...
“Iz youz an apostate??”
“No, not me”
“Yes youz is. An apostate is anyone that the profit sez is so. Monson sez youz iz so youz isz. Draw Gentile.”
Glocks are great, but are more unforgiving of stupidity and lack of familiarity with guns then other semi-autos. I advised a friend on mine who doesn't shoot very much to buy a Sig or Ruger which have "normal" safeties.
Exactly.
Perhaps he should think about this:
It has a thumb safety.
My career Army dad taught me this when I was about 9 years old if not before. Simple and effective. I still remember it too.
I carry a .40 Glock and the only way it goes off is a finger on a trigger.
