I was recently reminded of how our Grammar and other, um, correcting Free Republic members - beloved as they are - are invaluable to our growth as individuals and as Free Republic posters....
(see http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/chat/2485902/posts?page=5 post 3 and 4 for that latest reminder...)
Anyway, Joel Schnoor of Apex, NC, has written this blockbuster book (a sleeper best selller) that I want to recommend to all Grammar "Police" here on Free Republic and those who "grow" from their corrections, um those marvelous teaching moments.
No, that would be paren. No such word as parend.
Sorry, I couldn't resist.
Now waiting for someone to come along and correct my post. LOL.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for this post. I have a German stepson who is preparing to improve his SAT scores (first time around 82%) The German school system did an excellent job of teaching grammar. Now I have found a way to teach him, well more specifically/honestly he can teach himself the idiosyncrasies of spoken American English. And frankly it will probably help me to - since I grew up speaking German and English - I still am sometimes not sure about what’s what.
THANKS

Get the Book “Alfred’s Complete Adult Piano Course”, a No-Nonsense approach, which will have you playing again in no time! If you already play, start with Level Two. But Level One is also Good if you need to start with the basics.
Also Go To Amazon and find the Book “Nuthin’ But The Blues” for Blues Piano Riffs to add some of those to your Toolbox. All The Chords and Blues Scales around the Circle of Fifths are in the Back of the Book.
I type about as well as I speak Russian. Which is to say, ochen ploxo i myedleno (very poorly and slowly!)
I never FORCE my kids to do Recitals. I ALLOW them to be in them, only if they are VERY VERY GOOD! And believe me, THAT motivates them to WANT to be in them! LOL!
P.S. I woudld traede my dyslexia for dailysex any day of teh weke.
I’m not left that other site, and don’t even play s/he on TV, but did take up the violin when I became a “certain age”.
I took some lessons, got tired of hearing 4 yr olds whip my azz, so bought music books that have the lessons on cd’s. Mine have the song with the whole orchestra (including the violin part), or just the violin part. That helped a lot, as I can practice in the privacy of my room (or annoy the heck outta the neighbors (take THAT grammar police, and do note the parens within parens that should be brackets but I’m lazy so I wrote you (grammar police) this run-on sentence instead!)
Whatever, practice, practice, and more practice is key. Sadly, since my operation, I haven’t had the violin out of its case (GP, please note the correct use of “its”). My oncologist told my husband after surgery that I probably wouldn’t be able to play the violin, as he assumed I’d never touched one. When told I already could play one, he said it would take some time and be painful for a bit, but I’d be able to. Cool. However, my career as a southpaw pitcher is over! (that is a joke, I’m totally a left-field player)
So, just Do It!!!
;)

poorly grammar pinging is to myself, its rules.
It was through the study of German that I finally got the idea of the grammatical structure of the Western languages.

I think I do pretty well with the word usage... BUT don’t worry too much about traditional sentence structure. That is why my high school English grades were average at best!
Thanks for the ping!
LOL!
Thanks for the link.
