The Marines have been warned: Any rough treatment or even harsh language aimed at a detainee is forbidden. When making an arrest, they are instructed to ask their subject if he will voluntarily go with them. This is getting totally out of hand. These ROE are putting our troops at risk

The Iraqi Defense minister was right. The dog barks but doesn’t bite.
Not our soldier’s faults, of course - It’s leadership. Our military is the most capable in the history of mankind, and yet it’s turning into the weakest at the same time.
I hope field command is ignoring orders and moving forward with a strong presence - While reporting upwards that everything is “by the book”.
It should be noted as well: The enemy operates “By the book”.. And their book tells them to eliminate infidels, abuse women, and conquer the world without mercy.
When I first read your excerpts, I thought this must be a satire, then I clicked on the link and saw it’s a genuine news article.
It’s nothing less than shocking. Are we trying to defeat the enemy or not? Clearly the Obamam ROE are set to protect the enemy, not our troops. If a terrorist drops his weapon, suddenly he is a “civilian” that we should just let go, so he can pick up his weapon and kill our troops five minutes later.
I’m buying stock in “Comfy Chairs”.
For some reason the link the dailyme doesn’t seem to be working, but here is the link to the orginal Los Angeles Times article (same title):
In Afghanistan, Marines handling detainees by the book
http://www.latimes.com/news/nation-and-world/la-fg-afghan-detainees19-2010feb19,0,729051.story
This is the fault of one of the most INEPT administrations in the history of this nation!
“The Marines have 96 hours to question a detainee before either releasing him or transferring him to the Afghan national police. Some, upon release, are given money as compensation for being detained.”
The article also mentions three Afghans who were found with traces of explosives on their hands, but they were released.
WTF? How about they tell the subject he's going with them and if he doesn't like it, they blow him into the next 'Stan.

NOBODY is THIS inept. Take it from there and judge from their actions, whose side are they really on?
Im buying stock in Comfy Chairs
Good one LOL!
I bet that the Marines have to Mirandize them (or have an on-site FBI agent do that. From what I heard, there are a lot of FBI agents in Afghanistan.)
Book’em Danno......
Arrest? WTF?
They are the enemy! The enemy is captured if he is not killed first! Krap!
This is WRONG!
Take no prisoners.

From the article: “True to their institutional culture, the Marines have a lengthy set of instructions on how to treat detainees. The procedures were rewritten after a detainee died in 2003 while in Marine custody in Iraq. Now, at each stop, as the detainees are being transferred, they are examined to spot any sign of rough treatment.”
So this goes back to 2003. It’s also consistent with the new type of counterinsurgency thinking that General Petraeus and others have brought to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, which is based on getting the local population on your side.
The only correct way to handle them is not to take them alive in the first place, or failing that, to shoot them dead while they’re trying to escape. Thanks Ed25.
Then I stand corrected. However, I see the spreading tendency to handle combatants as if they were merely common criminals....perhaps here more than in the actual theater of war. If Petraeus has instigated this policy, I will certainly accept it.
Political correctness kills.
