Populist or professor? Contrite or uncompromising?
President Obama will have a chance Wednesday to reintroduce himself to the nation when he delivers his first official State of the Union address before a joint session of Congress.
The prime-time speech, which will be aired on all major TV networks and cable stations, could hardly come at a more critical time for a president grappling with double-digit unemployment, sinking poll numbers and the possible collapse of his top domestic policy priority, an overhaul of the nation's health-care system.
"As often as the president has spoken over the past year, critics on the right and left have largely defined him," says University of Notre Dame American studies professor Robert Schmuhl. "For the State of the Union, he needs to redefine himself, who he is politically and what his core principles and policies are."
In Ohio on Friday, just three days after Democrats lost the 60th Senate vote that gave them an edge in pushing their agenda through Congress, Obama struck a decidedly populist tone.
Shunning a necktie for a midday town hall-style meeting in Elyria, Obama told the crowd again and again that he'll "never stop fighting" for them on issues from health care and jobs to education and accountability.
On Wednesday, however, the setting will be decidedly different: formal and steeped in history and tradition.
When he speaks to the nation from the House of Representatives' chamber, he will take "the biggest stage the president has" to speak to the people, says Michael Gerson, White House speechwriter for George W. Bush.
How he responds to last week's message from Massachusetts voters, who gave Republican Scott Brown the seat held by Sen. Edward Kennedy for nearly five decades, could set the political course for the next year and beyond.

But I tend to think THIS State of the Union will HAVE to be
more austere than usual: they perceive the need to come up with a VERY clearly stated “message”, wrapped inside a cocoon of SPIN, swaddled in a renewed sense of Messianic Mystery that the Messiah “we” elected has still got some great things in store for us.....if he can only disentangle the USA and the World from EIGHT YEARS OF FAILED BUSH POLICIES! EIGHT YEARS OF FAILED BUSH POLICIES! ETC.
Repeat ad infintum any mantra that can be utilized to remove any sense of responsibility from the current state of the country.
It’s going to be PREDICTABLY a BIG DUD for EVERYONE.
Especially the growing ranks of former supporters.
They’re going to be shaking their heads, muttering,
“really, what is he saying? Is he saying anything....?”
...to bring America to her knees.

This begs the obvious question: re-introduce himself as Barry Soetero or as Steve Dunham?

He’s got two problems with this plan:
1) Most of the electorate now knows who he really is. If he tries reintroducing himself as the same guy claimed to be when he campaigned in 2007-8, the contrast between who he says he is and who we now know he is will be stark and we will laugh him to scorn.
2) If he claims again to be the Obamessiah and unleashes all his messianic powers to win us over, he stands the chance of healing the blind. The immediate impact of that is that all of the Democrats will start voting against his programs. LOL.

You can’t make chicken salad out of chicken sh*t.
And... how many Conservatives continue to buy Disney products and services? Disney survives on discretionary dollars. Money that is NOT need for food, clothing and shelter. The economy is killing the entertainment and recreation industries. Yet... Disney is a huge component of the Left by owning ABC. It is not a harmless investment. Think about this when you spend your money.
