NEW DELHI Indian airports were on high alert Friday after intelligence services received information that Al Qaeda-linked militants were plotting to hijack a plane.
Such an attack would be the first major terror strike against India since 10 militants rampaged through the city of Mumbai for three days in November 2008, killing 166 people.
Aviation spokeswoman Moushumi Chakravarty said that the airports were placed on alert Thursday after the government received warnings from the intelligence agencies.(continued)

Oh great. My daughter is flying home Feb 8th!
Oh, this is lovely. We’re supposed to attend a family reunion in Bangalore this summer! :*(
Prayers going up for your daughter’s safe return! {{{Hugs}}}
He was incredulous that our intel agencies weren’t better at extracting information from terrorists we have caught. He basically told me that in India, the authorities would literally beat the h*** out of a captive, or whatever it took to obtain info. No Miranda, no squeamishness...
I wonder if this intel was obtained in this way.
It’s not really true.
The Indian government has already spent close to US$6.4 million for Ajmal Kasab’s trial circus, in spite of all the documented physical and videographic evidence available to grant him the death penalty.
Kasab, by the way, is the lone surviving Pakistani terrorist from the Mumbai attacks of 2008.
OK, and thanks. I didn’t know this.
That’s unfortunate...I was hoping to find a country that,”get’s it”.

“Hijack threat, AI planes put on high alert”
PTI, 22 January 2010, 11:02am IST

A directive has been issued to all Indian missions abroad to sensitise the staff of the airlines, official sources said.
According to intelligence inputs, terrorist groups having allegiance with al-Qaida, Lashker-e-Taiba and Jamat-ul-Dawa were planning to hijack an Air India plane especially operating in or from SAARC countries — Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Maldives, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India as well. ( Watch Video )
Hijacking could be attempted by the terrorists from airports located at Yangon, Dhaka and Colombo. Security of planes operating to Bhutan has also been beefed up, the sources said.”

The “family reunion in Bangalore” has been torpedoed!
Mohammedans should be banned at all airports.
Let them walk or ride a camel.
Probably not.
My husband is from India and they’ve had to deal with Islamic terrorists for *years*—he’s pretty nonchalant about these kind of reports.
Me, I’m all for locking up the house and never going out into the world somedays to protect my children, but then that would be letting the terrorists win, and I REFUSE to do that. >:-\
First 12/25, then the Canadian government aviation alert, now this.
Will *anyone* start to take Muslim terrorism seriously? No!
OK, let the killing continue.
Quakers? Again?
