Butter should be banned to protect the nation's health, according to a leading heart surgeon. Shyam Kolvekar says only radical action can save growing numbers of young adults from heart attacks and clogged arteries.

Warning of the dangers of other foods high in saturated fat, he advises people to eat less red meat, take low-fat milk and switch to olive and sunflower oil. Saturated fat is blamed for a third of the 200,000 premature deaths from heart disease a year.

Adults are eating an average of 800 grams of it a month - 20 per cent more than the recommended limit. Hitting the recommended level could save 3,500 lives a year. Mr Kolvekar, a consultant at University College London Hospitals, said: 'By banning butter and replacing it with a healthy spread the average daily sat-fat intake would be reduced by eight grams.

But when I put a pat on my grits, it didn’t eggs ackley melt. Strange stuff.

Yes indeed. If bugs and mice won't eat it, then it probably isn't food.

That's almost 2 lbs a month...

I know I don't consume that much.

And suppose you cook your eggs in butter....a lot of the butter stays in the pan.

If you do butter and toast everyday...just change that one habit...

How about just losing weight? Dietary fat doesn’t cause obesity, glycemogenic carbs do. A diet high in protein and fat actually contributes to weight loss. Atkins proved that. The mainstay of controlling weight is exercise, which contributes to lowering bad and raising good cholesterol.

Sure, thin people who exercise have heart attacks, but for every one of those, their are 6 or 7 obese people who don’t exercise who have heart disease. Smoking is no longer the #1 health risk in the US, obesity is.

Nonsense. Butter is an excellent food. Just make sure it’s as natural as possible, no hormones in the milk etc.

Just look at famously long-lived clades of humanity, such as rural Italians. Are they eating butter, or ‘spreads’?

From truth or fiction, these are the truth. We only use butter here, think i’ll try making some this week.

A tablespoon of butter is 100 calories. A tablespoon of Margarine is 100 calories.

Eating margarine can increase heart disease in women by 53% over eating the same amount of butter, according to a recent Harvard Medical Study-

Butter is slightly higher in saturated fats at 8 grams compared to 5 Grams-

Butter has been around for centuries where margarine has been around for Less than 100 years

Margarine is high in trans fatty acids-

Margarine increases total cholesterol and LDL (this is the bad cholesterol) and lowers HDL cholesterol, (the good cholesterol)-

Margarine lowers quality of breast milk-

Margarine decreases immune response

Decreases insulin response

Recently, just for a change, I put olive oil on the popcorn. Adios butter!

Well now you got me curious. Maybe I'll try a little and see how it goes.

OMG!!! Can this be true? Is Tofu really the only food left to mankind to eat......? Is it now genocide for cattle, chickens, many of the fatty fish,......or is this simply another repeat of past articles that come under the headings of "Publish or Perish.....................?

Butter is much better for you because it is made from natural ingredients. Read the igredients on your margerine tub...if you can pronounce them. All processed, man-made artificial stuff. You might as well eat plastic.

When I told my doc recently how much butter I eat and Half & Half and bacon I consume and it’s a lot, she told me whatever I’m eating to keep it up as my cholesterol levels are perfect, not just good but perfect. It’s what I hear any time it’s checked.

My mother must have taught me well, she is now 89 years old, eats whatever she wants and her numbers are perfect too.

It has to be genetic, yet this a-hole liberal calling himself a doctor would deny these things to everybody. Liberals are deranged and power mad.

doc told me to give my kids more butter and whole milk products to fatten them up.
My wife and I live a low-fat lifestyle so it’s like we need two refrigerators.

It didn’t melt! It separated. The oil came out. I left it on the counter one day, and it separated at room temp. Trashed it. Nothin’ better than unsalted sweet cream butter!

It has to be genetic

Agreed. An extreme diet can push things off balance of course but a normal person is affected mostly by their genetic makeup which determines how the food is processed into the sugars it needs to work.
