With the window of survivability still open for Haitians trapped in the rubble of last week's catastrophic earthquake, the UN and FEMA are telling search and rescue teams waiting to deploy to Haiti to forget about it.
Reports out of Houston are saying that one of the premier search and rescue units in the world has been on standby since shortly after the quake but was never called.
Texas TV station KTRK gave this description of Texas Task Force 1:
The TX-TF1 team which was activated for this deployment was a Type I Urban Search and Rescue Team which is comprised of 80 personnel, 4 search and rescue canines, search and technical rescue personnel, physicians, paramedics, structural engineers, other support personnel, and approximately 50 tons of rescue equipment and supplies. The team is self-sustaining for 14 days and deployable by aircraft to anywhere within 4 hours of activation. The task force has also deployed nationally over 70 times, to include the Shuttle Columbia disaster, the World Trade Center, Hurricanes Katrina and Ike.
KTRK and The Houston Chronicle are both reporting:
"The United Nations mission in the country has declared the search and rescue teams already in the nation are sufficient to handle the task and the Texas team and others prepared to deploy would not be needed."
Anyone paying attention over the weekend knows that people were still being rescued, and others that rescuers knew were alive died while waiting to be rescued.
This is yet one more example of Barack Obama failing to take the bull by the horns and get promised help to the Haitians quickly and efficiently.
Reuters notes that there is talk that Obama's response could end up hurting him politically:
This could be a foreign policy Katrina for Obama," said Larry Birns, director of the Council on Hemispheric Affairs, a Washington think tank.
Birns said already there were negative headlines coming out of Haiti because aid is flowing too slowly.
"The Obama administration cannot allow itself to be tarnished by the kind of headlines that Bush was getting because of Katrina," he said.
The Obama administration has made a show of portraying Obama as hands-on in the relief effort, even releasing a timeline of his phone calls and meetings on Haiti since the quake struck.
Obama spent yesterday campaigning, first in a Black church in Washington, D.C. and then in Boston for Democrat U.S. Senate nominee Martha Coakley.
Amazing. of course the UN also told doctors in the field to abandon their patients—and they did, leaving the American doctor (CNN’s Sanjay Gupta) to take care of them the best he could.
My other thinking is they are switching gears and concentrating more on feeding the people that didn't get trapped under the ruble and to concentrating on keeping riots from happening.
This needs to be sent to Drudge. Absolutely disgusting.
I imagine the search and rescue teams are being told to stand down because there is no equipment to rescue the trapped victims.

Obama wants the Haiti Aid effort to fail. Why?
Obama wants to evacuate a million Haitians to Florida give them green cards and the vote for 2012. Florida is the major swing state.
And if this seems outrageous, I am sorry to say that plans are already in place.

I understand your frustration I really do and do not want to argue as I have found your posts very informative.
But what exactly do you want obama to do?
Do you think he is right to bring thousands of them over here?
Just those two answers would clear my mind up as of right now I am confused what you want him to do.
Before you answer though remember these facts.
The runway is blocked most of the time, the port is closed, the whole world is trying to get supplies in and having to get now in the way of each other.
we already have to many chiefs there
that is why I say we pull out and leave there before we get sucked in there as we always do.
We still can provide logistics and we can supply med ships off the coast like we are doing but we need to get boots off the ground ASAP

Just holding the RATS to their own words/’principles.’ I would say, Obama should display leadership, which wouldn’t include bringing thousands over, but might include high level brisk commentary on the UN’s ridiculous stance in the face of this incredible tragedy.
But we know we won’t see leadership out of bammy the child king. He’ll check the teleprompter, and the wind, and do what he’s told by the international socialist commune.
I'm surprised Obama hasn't appointed a Blame it on Bush Czar yet? Then again, I think that's the main objective of all his Czars and Cabinet and staff and SEIU and ACORN and Dems in Congress and all the voters who fell for Obama's BS.

The feds couldn’t just roll into Louisiana and start telling people what to do.
Only Kathleen Blanco could do that - she was the governor of LA at the time, and she was a complete no show.
In fact, the parallels in these crisis are stunning. Where’s the Hatian government? Where was Blanco during Katrina?
However, if Bush is going to get hammered with Katrina by people who can’t pass a civics course on division of powers, then the same idiots I guess can start hammering Obama for not invading Haiti and calling it the temporary 51st state.

I think if he had any leadership he would say this
“I am now stopping bringing them over here as it would be best for them and their country plus their families to say over there. I have ordered for our military to come back home and ordered that our supply and logistics be in [place providing aid , thank you”
That would be leadership in my view and then telling the UN is they want to play leader and want to keep saying we’re not doing enough then we’re stopping money to you and we’re pulling out of the UN.
People that wont help themselves and are standing around waiting for others to help them, and idiots attacking the people that are there to help.
