Elderly and Abandoned, 85 Haitians Await Death
Foxnews ^ | 1/17/2010 | Staff

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti — The old lady crawls in the dirt, wailing for her pills. The elderly man lies motionless as rats pick at his overflowing diaper.

There is no food, water or medicine for the 85 surviving residents of the Port-au-Prince Municipal Nursing Home, barely a mile from the airport where a massive international aid effort is taking shape.

"Help us, help us," 69-year-old Mari-Ange Levee begged Sunday, lying on the ground with a broken leg and ribs. A cluster of flies swarmed the open fracture in her skull.

One man has already died, and administrator Jean Emmanuel said more would follow soon unless water and food arrive immediately.

"I appeal to anybody to bring us anything, or others won't live until tonight," he said, motioning toward five men and women who were having trouble breathing, a sign that the end was near.

..

Though Thermiti and her friends haven't eaten since Tuesday, she remained impressively feisty. She said that's because she had already spent five days without eating during previous hardships.

"But I was younger, and now there's no water either," she said, predicting that — unlike other pensioners — she could still hold out for at least another day.

"Then if the foreigners don't come (with aid)," she said, "it will be up to baby Jesus."

Haiti is filled with thousands of able bodied young men who could unload and distribute supplies. New Orleans was too. What a shame.

It’s nothing like Katrina.

These people had no advance warning and even if they had had one, there would have been nowhere to go.

The media is not producing fraudulent stories about violence toward rescuers. The relief agencies would not go into NO until the military “restored the peace”. Even though it turned out it was all a media hoax.

The people are working VERY HARD to rescue those who are trapped and to assist any way they can. This is the opposite of New Orlean’s reaction at Katrina.

The rulers in Haiti are not refusing aid. The rulers in Louisiana did.

There are thousands of deaths in Haiti. There were a handful in NO.

Did the reporters merely pack their equipment away and drive off to Starbucks, or did they contribute anything after “getting the scoop”?

Hey, administrator Jean Emmanuel, shut up and start caring for your patients! You can talk to the press later. Run off the rats and change that man’s diaper!!!

You were saying ...

I think 1 million Haitians need to be sent to Obama’s home state of Hawaii but they need to stay there.

Actually, I heard that Dubai wanted to invite the United Nations to set up headquarters (for the world) over in their country. I would suggest that Dubai open up their borders, and as a first act for getting the United Nations over there in Dubai, take all those voodoo practicing and Satanistic practicing hoardes over there in Dubia.

It would seem to be a good fit to me... :-)

Let us not forget, Haiti is the MOST corrupt nation in the world...thugs are stealing provisions quicker than you can send them. I don’t have all the answers but right now, I sure as heck would not send any money to anyone that represented themselves as an ally to Haiti. jmo

Boo Hoo Hoo, Haiti is a basket case, it was a basket case before the earhquake. It has recieved more “Humanitarian Aid” than any other country in the world...Has any of it helped. To be honest, they are better off today than they were last week(they have less people to feed)....I suggest before anyone sends money to ANY org. they should read the History of Haiti and ask themselves honestly...would it actually help....I will give money only to help people in this country first.

I expect the DemocRATS to start accusing the conservatives, the GOP and talk radio of "playing politics" with this disaster sometime this week.

Watch for it. The commie 'RATS are a bunch of hypocrites.

Haven’t you heard. Biden said yesterday that New Orleans is just NOW getting aid from FEMA under Janet Napolitano.

Yeah the idiot actually said this.

It’s like Katrina all over again.

Except that in Katrina, people had a week's warning and for the most part could have left if they chose. Except that with Katrina there were no aftershocks. Except that with Katrina only 300 people died, and the majority of those were people who decided, against every recommendation and plea, to stay with their homes. Except that Katrina was caused largely by human stupidity and stubbornness in living below sea level, while this was a disaster entirely of nature's making.

Additional differences between Haiti and New Orleans Katrina.

There was shelter for the NO refugees. There is no shelter for most of these people in Haiti.

Once the US military was on the scene it was hours before supplies were being distributed to almost all the impacted people. They are not able to get to the majority of the refugees in Haiti.

Disease is going to be the next problem ravaging the nation of Haiti.

"The people are working VERY HARD to rescue those who are trapped and to assist any way they can. This is the opposite of New Orlean’s reaction at Katrina."

I would like to point out to you that before the Coast Guard and other 'authorities' arrived to rescue folks, there were literally hundreds of citizens and Dept. of Wildlife and Fisheries folks, using boats and whatever else that they could to render assistance and evacuate those that were flooded. They too worked VERY HARD, as you say.

“Elderly and Abandoned, 85 Haitians Await Death”

And what kind of care were the elderly and abandoned receiving before the earth quake? Just because CNN wasn’t covering it doesn’t mean the Haitians weren’t suffering.

Where is Bono?

Searching for a bank in which to stash his $600 million so that the taxman can't get to it.

Seriously.
